CIG is looking for a Principal Knowledge Officer (PKO) to write and edit CIG’s materials, which fall largely into the following broad categories.

1. Strategy documents. These detail CIG’s perspectives of what “good” government entail and form the intellectual basis for the development of CIG’s products and services.
2. CIG publications and knowledge products. These include Governance Matters or the Chandler Good Governance Index Report. It could also include research and writing of case studies and shorter analytical pieces.
3. Toolkits and practice guides. CIG assists governments with architecting organisations, and building systems and processes. To facilitate this process, CIG develops practical toolkits and guides which government officials can refer to during the implementation process.
4. Other materials for external audiences. This could include CIG’s corporate profile, brochures, proposals to potential funders and partners, etc.

Each of these written products serve different objectives and have different target audiences, thus requiring the PKO to draw on different skillsets. For example, writing articles for CIG’s publications may require the PKO to identify and interview subject matter experts, and synthesise the information in written form. Writing CIG’s strategy documents would require the PKO to do independent research on current and historical issues related to governance and public policy.

Experience & Aptitudes

The candidate must possess native fluency in the English language and write excellently.

• This means writing with a flair that engages the reader. It also means writing with clarity and precision to inform and persuade.
• It is critical that the candidate is able to flexibly adapt his/her writing style, including being intentional and specific about word choices, depending on the target audience.

The candidate should be intellectually agile. They must be able to conduct independent research into the wide gamut of topics and issues related to government.

The ideal candidate should be a mid-career professional who has had about 10 years of experience in journalism, with a focus on policy and political matters. We will be especially looking for experience with writing long-form editorial articles.

The ideal candidate would also have had some experience in government, in a role that involves programme/policy design or implementation. The candidate must be able to communicate in a way that resonate with those who work in government.

Job Overview

The Senior Contracts Officer will manage, negotiate, and administer contracts to ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and industry standards within the FPSO sector. This role is critical for supporting project execution, mitigating risks, and ensuring that all contractual obligations are met efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Contract Drafting and Administration:Prepare, review, and revise contracts, ensuring alignment with company standards and legal requirements.
  Maintain a comprehensive database of contracts and monitor their lifecycle.
  
• Negotiation:Support the negotiation of contract terms with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to achieve favorable terms.
  Resolve contractual disputes promptly and amicably.
  
• Compliance and Risk Management:Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations specific to FPSO operations.
  Identify and mitigate risks in contracts to safeguard company interests.
  
• Coordination and Communication:Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, procurement, and project management, to align on contractual terms.
  Serve as a liaison between the company and external stakeholders regarding contractual matters.
  
• Reporting and Documentation:Prepare detailed reports on contract performance, risks, and compliance.
  Maintain accurate records of contractual documents for audits and future reference.
  

Qualifications and Experience

• Education:Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  
• Experience:Minimum of 10 years of experience in contract management, preferably in the oil and gas or FPSO industry.
  Strong understanding of commercial terms, legal frameworks, and industry-specific requirements.
  
• Skills:Proficiency in contract management software and tools.
  Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  Detail-oriented with a strong ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of FPSO design, construction, and operational contracts.
• Familiarity with international maritime and oil and gas regulations.
• Certification in contract management (e.g., IACCM, NCMA) is an advantage.
