A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR ID Labs) is seeking for a Research Officer to join us in our mission to be a leading centre of infectious diseases research. A*STAR ID Labs aims to develop a cohesive A*STAR response to drive and deliver translational infectious diseases research to better health and economic outcomes.

The candidate will be joining the Antimicrobial Chemical Biology Lab, a newly established group in A*STAR ID Labs focusing on the development of synthetic antimicrobial compounds for potential therapeutic applications. Scholarship opportunities will be available for those interested in pursuing further education at the master’s or PhD level.

Research projects will encompass various tasks such as:

• Chemical synthesis
• In vitro activity testing
• Understanding mechanisms of action
• In vivo efficacy evaluation.
• Support the team in lab operation
• Upkeep of consumables
• Safety oversight
• Labware procurement
• Documenting experimental procedures and results.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biomedical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or related field
• Familiarity with basic microbiology (e.g., bacteria/fungi culture, agar plating, PCR) and chemistry (e.g., reaction setup, column purification, HPLC) lab techniques, programming, and/or common graphics software (e.g., Photoshop) will be advantageous.
• Highly motivated and passionate about scientific research
• Good spoken and written communication skills
• Team player
• Receptive and detail-orientated

Deployment:

From 1 Jan 2025 to 31 May 2025 (5 mths) &

From 1 Jul 2025 to 30 Nov 2025 (5 mths)

Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:

• Mondays to Fridays: 7:00am to 4:00pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break
• Services not required on Saturdays, Sundays, gazetted school holidays and public holidays.

Scope of Works:

1) Provision of withdrawal support, specialized remediation, and implementation of Individual Education Plans.

2) Provision of in-class support for special needs students in areas such as (but not limited to):

• reminding and prompting the student to stay on-task, pay attention to teachers and participating in classroom activities;
• helping the student to follow classroom routines;
• withdrawing the student for time out if he becomes disruptive or stressed during lessons and providing means to calm him/her down;
• helping the student to understand lesson content using various means (e.g. visual aides, and to complete work assigned);
• helping to communicate the student’s needs to the teachers;

3) Provide consultation to teachers and parents to facilitate better understanding of the students’ needs and how to support them.

4) Set up and maintenance of special needs-friendly classroom/school environments.

5) Preparation of teaching and learning resources for use with students (e.g. visual prompts for mild ASD students, differentiated worksheets for students with dyslexia).

6) Provision of skills training (e.g. organisational skills, managing anger, handling changes, queuing up, handwriting skills).

7) Provision of peer training and support (e.g. setting up circles of friends).

8) Provision of feedback to teachers and parents on the needs and progress of the special needs students.

9) Collaboration with external professionals/agencies and special schools in the support of special needs students.

10) Co-ordination and contribution to case conferences in schools.

11) Set up and maintenance of records on special needs students.

12) Conduct pre-orientation for students with ASD to help them familiarize with the school environment and the new changes around the school (eg. Change of classroom, change of class name and teachers).

13) Trained in administration of progress monitoring tools.

Requirement:

• Diploma in special Education
• 3 years of Similar Experience in MOE
• 3 years of experience in conducting school based Dyslexia remediation.
