The Laboratory of Biodiversity Genomics at GIS is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our research team as a Research Officer with expertise in Plant Molecular Biology. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing our understanding of plant genetics and molecular mechanisms through the application of cutting-edge techniques, including plant-pathogen interaction studies, tissue culture and CRISPR editing in plants. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in plant genomics and urban agriculture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Optimize and troubleshoot plant tissue culture protocols. Optimize CRISPR editing in plants for genetic manipulation.
• Execute DNA/RNA extraction and analysis for plant transcriptome studies.
• Conduct plant-pathogen interaction studies to unravel molecular mechanisms.
• Assist with plant growing in hydroponics systems to support experimental needs.
• Conduct plant phenotyping to analyze and characterize plant traits.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure the successful execution of research projects.
• Follow protocols precisely and maintain detailed records of experimental procedures.

Requirements:

• Bachelor/Master Degree in a relevant field with previous experience in a research laboratory, particularly in plant-related studies.
• Proficiency in plant molecular biology techniques and plant phenotyping
• Experience in optimizing and troubleshooting tissue culture protocols for various plant species (added advantage).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Highly motivated individual with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
