Job Description

The Department of Japanese Studies and the Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore jointly invite applications for the post of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in East Asian Media and Film Studies. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed in both departments, with a higher weightage in the department their research focuses more on.

The successful applicant will be expected to have a strong commitment to a) teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; b) providing supervision to undergraduate and graduate students and c) undertaking research in East Asian Media and Film Studies and other related fields; as well as d) playing an active role in both Departments’ curriculum and development. They should possess advanced professional proficiency in English, Mandarin and Japanese as they will need to conduct research and teach classes in all 3 languages.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position should have a PhD in East Asian Studies, Film Studies, Media Studies, Comparative Literature, or any other relevant discipline. Successful applicants should be able to conduct research and teaching on China (including the Chinese diaspora) and Japan. Their research must cover either the modern or contemporary periods (from 1900s onwards). Scholars who can contribute to further interdisciplinarity in research or teaching are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities & Requirements:

• Well versed in local building projects will be an advantage.
• Strong design capability, high level of creativity and good presentation skills and project management.
• Knowledge of local authority requirements.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Sketchup, Revit and/or ArchiCAD.
• Minimum 2 years post graduate experience.
• Master or Bachelor of Architecture equipvalent (Recognised by BOA Singapore).
• Working schedule: Mondays to Fridays, 9am-6pm.
• Location: Central, Singapore

You will be responsible for the maintenance of electronics systems onboard surface vessels and shore facilities. You will work closely with other engineers, Service Delivery Managers and Project Managers to deliver quality maintenance services to our customers. You will have opportunities to be short-listed for participation in short-term overseas attachment and training courses. You will have opportunities to manage maintenance operations at team, or workshop level.

• Work with the Superintendent to upkeep the systems onboard the naval platforms at the highest state of availability and readiness.
• Perform maintenance tasks onboard vessels, workshop and shipyards
• Perform defect troubleshooting on systems
• Perform installation/removal work for equipment/systems
• Perform refurbishment of electronics unit/assemblies

Qualities We Value

• Knowledge in Engineering or equivalent
• Naval related maintenance training certifications would be advantageous
• Good working knowledge and experience working on-board commercial and military vessels on underwater, mechanical / electronics / electrical systems
• Good working knowledge and experience on computer software (words, excel).
• Understanding maintenance regime and basic experience in troubleshooting system till card level
• Able to work well in a team and independently as when required.
• Able to work with challenging customers.
• Able to work outdoors and onboard naval platforms.
• Able to sail for up to a week if required.
