About ReCAAP ISC

The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC) is the first regional government-to-government agreement to promote and enhance cooperation against piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Research Assistant works under the general direction of Professor Steven Tingay at Curtin University’s Bentley campus, creating a presence for the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA) in Singapore. They undertake a variety of research support tasks, which may include a mix of administrative, logistical, experimental and/or technical (where applicable) tasks.

DUTIES:

Undertake research support tasks and where applicable, perform technical support tasks which may include, but are not limited to:

Research and Administrative Support

• Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders as necessary.

• Liaise with project stakeholders and participants to arrange activities.

• Coordinate requirements, and prepare materials for, research activities/experiments/field trips.

• Perform experiments and/or contribute to research activities with the skills required for the position.

• Undertake literature reviews.

• Assist with the preparation of funding applications.

• Undertake data collection and preliminary analysis.

• Assist with the drafting of progress reports and publications.

• Assist with the preparation of materials and organisation for conference presentations and workshops.

• Facilitate input and updating of research information/activity in relevant databases.

Technical Support

• Assist the research team in the operation of equipment.

• Conduct basic maintenance and minor repairs of research group equipment.

• Monitor and initiate ordering of materials, consumables and equipment, participate in stocktakes, and ensure that delivered goods (including chemicals) and equipment are checked, catalogued, stored and secured by applicable procedures.

• Update and maintain standard operating procedures for all aspects of research group operations including safety, hazardous substances, equipment and workspaces.

• Ensure that research program equipment and laboratory areas are appropriately maintained and cleaned.

Other

• Undertake occasional travel to Curtin University’s Bentley campus in Western Australia to engage with staff and students based at CIRA.

• Comply and adhere to applicable occupational health and safety criteria at all times.

• Comply with applicable legislation and regulations relevant to the research area’s activities and Curtin University requirements.

Job Description

This is an research administrative and operational position within the Asia Centre for Health Security (ACHS). The incumbent will be part of the team to support the core functions of the centre. Their duties would include supporting research administration, conducting education and training programs, convening meetings, and secretariat functions.

Duties & Responsibilities
Working under the direction of the Director and Head of Operations at the ACHS, the Assistant Manager/Senior Assistant Manager will be part of the team to support the core duties of the centre:

a) Research and Centre Administration
- Support researchers to draft, review, negotiate and execute research agreements by working closely with researchers, collaborators and internal and external legal offices
- Liaise and support the centre's leads and research staff to meet the centre's objectives of the centre
- Provide administrative support and point of contact between faculty and researchers and NUS administrative departments to support the management of research projects
- Administrative support for the running of the centre, including arranging meetings, liaising with third party providers and vendors
- Support financial administration, processing of payment, procurement and budget tracking for centre expenses and donor funding

c) Collaboration & Partnership

d) Provide secretariat support for the centre (Faculty Meetings, International Advisory Panel), this includes arranging of meetings, preparation of slides, notes of meeting, communication and dissemination of information, and collation of report

e) Work closely with other offices in the school, e.g. finance, HR, IT and GHO and university, e.g. OLA, ODPRT, CPO to take forward all administrative tasks, including discussion, collaboration and problem-solving on complex situations

f) Other duties assigned by the Director or Head, Operations

Qualifications

• Applicants are expected to have at least a Bachelor degree from a recognised institution with at least five years of experience in an administrative position within the academic, research or healthcare sector

• Strong administrative skills and experience in supporting projects such as convening meetings, organise training and workshops, service contracts, financial administration, or equivalent experience

• Experience organising events, in-person and online is a requirement

• Excellent written and oral communciation skills, with the ability to summarise content, prepare slides, reports and content
