Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), University of the Arts Singapore, an esteemed arts institution with a global reputation, seeks a functionally strong Technical Officer at the Faculty of Art and Design Workshop.
The Faculty of Art and Design is dedicated to inspiring students to pursue their passion for fine art and design while fostering their growth as effective creative thinkers, problem solvers, and future builders.
In this pivotal role, you will be engaged in aiding students through our holistic and integrative learning culture in order for them to develop strong creative expression, technical skills, and innovative practices within our practice-led, industry-focused curriculum, which includes studio work, industry projects and insightful workshops.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the incumbent would be to work closely with students by supervising their projects, providing technical guidance on creating scaled and full-scale prototypes, and assisting students in using the assigned FOAD Workshop(s) effectively.
The role also involves planning and forecasting the budgeting needs for faculty workshops, preparing the necessary materials and offering technical support for classes, as well as conducting induction sessions to teach safe workshop practices, machinery operation, and adherence to workshop regulations and proper attire and conduct.
In addition, you will also be responsible for maintaining safe housekeeping practices, managing the storage of materials, and maintaining an inventory of workshop facilities. You will ensure that all users strictly follow the workshop rules and regulations by monitoring the usage and loaning of equipment to users and ensuring safety and proper maintenance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- You should possess a Diploma qualification in a related discipline with relevant working experience in a workshop environment.
- In addition, you must be certified workshop-trained and demonstrate strong technical skills in making and fabrication methods, as well as material knowledge related to 3-dimensional practices, with expertise in materials used in art and design creation.
- To excel in this role, you should also have strong software skills, particularly proficiency in Rhinoceros, ZBrush and Blender. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator is an added advantage.
- A team player with strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including academics, educators, artists, and cultural leaders, is a pre-requisite.
