The Opportunity

• You will be accountable for significant and complex activities or projects. This will require you to be responsible for predicting and planning future resources and will be involve leading the overall performance on rail and major transportation projects. This will include client liaison, design management, quality management, programming, reporting and cost control.
• In achieving this you will be responsible for scheduling work to meet deadlines, monitoring budgets and resourcing and controlling expenditure to meet financial targets as well as the performance and development of others. This would require you to provide guidance, training, motivation and direction to staff.
• Involved in setting project and discipline budgets; as such you would be responsible for negotiating agreements with discipline leads, subconsultants and suppliers in order to achieve financial targets.
• Be accountable for one or more areas of technology or discipline function. Within this area you will be required to promote learning opportunities from successes and problems that arise. Set and meet agreed budgets and deadlines. In addition, you may be accountable for managing the financial performance of specified areas.
• Be responsible for the development and implementation of longer-term strategic plans that will benefit the business and within this role you may be responsible for recruitment, appraisals, performance development, morale and motivation of staff.

Is this role right for you?

• Recognised Master’s degree in Railway Engineering with minimum 15 years of design/engineering experience in trackwork of which, at least 8 years of experience involved in managing a design team for railway projects of similar scale and at least 3 years of experience in the design of complex S&C renewals, fastening, and sleeper/bearer design.;
• Proficiency in Bentley Rail Track/Power Rail Track;
• Chartered Engineer Membership of an internationally recognised professional body; with significant experience in the production of concept and detailed design drawings, reports and specifications for rail projects.
• Experience leading teams on multi-disciplinary projects and developing less-experienced engineers and project/design managers, as well as developing successful client relationships and LTA design requirements and specifications.
• Proven working knowledge of relevant International Railway Standards, such as European Norm, UIC, etc.
