Position: Primary School Math Teacher

Role: Full-Time

Min. Qualifications: DipED, Bachelor's degree or higher

Teaching duties

• Teach classes (as per the timetable scheduled by the school)
• Demonstrate through collaboration, planning and teaching, the IB and PYP/MYP/DP framework of concepts within contexts, and inquiry-based learning that is balanced with specific skills of ‘how to learn’, leading learning towards the IB vision and the aims of individual subject areas and that incorporates interdisciplinary teaching and learning
• Work and collaborate with the Student Support Department to enrich curriculum and student learning
• To differentiate and target learning to students’ needs and aptitude levels
• Be culturally and linguistically responsive and proactive

Relationships

• Develop trust and effective relationships with all students in the classes and their parents
• Establish supportive, collaborative, and positive working relationships with all other members of staff
• Become a positive presence across the whole school and a representative of it within its wider community

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

UWCSEA East has a vacancy for a Middle School and High School Music Teacher from August 2024. The teaching responsibilities for this position will primarily be in the Middle School but includes High School classes too. The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful and forward-thinking collaborator, passionate about delivering an exciting music curriculum. The candidate will join a vibrant and successful K-12 Music Department.

Main Responsibilities

• Teach general Middle School and High School Music classes (ages 11-18 years old) in a concept-based learning environment.
• Employ a wide variety of learning and teaching strategies including the use of new technologies to make learning both effective and enjoyable.
• Be supportive of a child-centred approach to learning, able to nurture high levels of student agency.
• Work collaboratively with the Music team to plan lessons and further develop the curriculum.
• Experienced in adapting learning to ensure it is inclusive and accessible to all.
• Be actively involved in the wide and varied Music Activities Programme on offer.
• Work collaboratively to assist students in sharing their learning through performances and productions.
• Work with a high degree of flexibility and be positive towards taking on a variety of roles and responsibilities across age groups in a complex and dynamic department.
• Be willing to teach a variety of musical styles and cultures in both vocal and instrumental contexts.
• Maintain student records as required; assess, observe, record and report on student progress, including various approaches to reporting to parents.
• Attend educational visits; residential and day trips as required.
• Be genuinely interested in making a positive and proactive contribution to the wider life of the school.
• Ensure excellent lines of communication with parents through online learning platforms as well as face to face.
• Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs as may be reasonably requested by the Principal.

Person Specifications

• A relevant degree, a recognized teaching qualification or certification and considerable teaching experience are expected.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Manage 2 classes of children daily (1.5 to 6 Years)
• Work with full suite of Montessori materials (1.5 to 6 years)
• Direct children for two 3-hour work cycles in a day
• Maintain students records
• Prepare and deliver weekly evaluation on child’s progress to Principal, progress reports four times per term
• Prepare and conduct Parent-Teacher Conferences twice a year
• Lead and prepare materials for special events/occasions/festivals
• Conduct in-house Montessori trainings for teachers each month
• Oversee the Montessori curriculum, evaluate teachers’ teaching methods, and evaluate each child’s progress
• Prepare staff schedules on weekly basis
• Assist the Principal whenever required

Requirements

• Must have successfully completed a Montessori Diploma
• ECDA certified (ACEY required)
• At least 10 years’ experience working in a Montessori Classroom
• Proficient in English (written, spoken, reading)
• Proficient in various Microsoft Office applications
