As a part of the NRF Fellowship Project on Materials-by-Design, School of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) is looking to hire a Research Assistant with expertise in high-throughput synthesis of inorganic materials and optimization using machine learning. The Research Assistant will build upon our team’s experience toward developing high-throughput experimental platforms for synthesis, characterization and functional performance testing (thermoelectric performance, catalytic performance) of a library of materials.  The Research Assistant will focus on synthesizing and characterizing inorganic materials, specifically inorganic chalcogenides for thermoelectrics and metal alloy catalysts for CO2 reduction.

Additionally, the Research Assistant will conduct in-depth structural and elemental characterization and analysis of the materials using XRD, SEM-EDX and XPS. Finally, thermoelectric measurements experiments will be conducted. The Research Assistant should be able to utilize design-of-experiments and high-throughput experimental workflows. In addition, materials science and metallurgical concepts such as phase diagrams, mapping and separating different phases and oxidation states of compounds and rapid structural analysis are required. SCELSE is seeking to hire a Manager, Business Data Operations Management provide day-to-day facilities management and the data centre in SCELSE through ongoing end-user support as well as monitoring of HPC resources, including its 13,000 plus core compute servers and over 4 PB of high-capacity storage. Responsibilities:

• Ensure delivery of high-quality services and operational efficiency across all graduate programmes

Centre for the Applications of Teaching & Learning Analytics for Students (ATLAS) is leveraging on learning analytics to improve teaching and learning as part of Education Strategy 2025. This position is similar in nature to a business analyst but for advancing the use of data for teaching and learning purposes. The position is critical for developing a communication plan to get faculty and students buy-in on the learning analytics goals of the university. He or she would also be responsible for gathering faculty, students and schools’ teaching and learning needs, and translating the needs into meaningful learning analytics solutions.

He or she would be working with the director and the data scientists to enhance data literacy of faculty and students. In addition, he or she is expected to support the administration of key systems such as Denodo and Dataiku in compliance with the data and AI governance policy of the university.
