The successful candidate will work with PI Ben Wainwright in the department of biological sciences at NUS.

Using samples from multiple marine species that have been collected along an approximate 6000km east to west transect from Sumatra to Papua New Guinea, the candidate will work on a project that seeks to explain why the marine ecosystems of the Coral Triangle are so biologically diverse, what facilitates and what restricts gene flow in the region, and finally, how can this information be used to advance marine conservation planning in Southeast Asia.

• DNA extraction, PCR, High-throughput DNA sequencing library preparation (Illumina, PacBio, ONT) and the associated techniques.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Research Assistant works under the general direction of Professor Steven Tingay at Curtin University’s Bentley campus, creating a presence for the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA) in Singapore. They undertake a variety of research support tasks, which may include a mix of administrative, logistical, experimental and/or technical (where applicable) tasks.

DUTIES:

Undertake research support tasks and where applicable, perform technical support tasks which may include, but are not limited to:

Research and Administrative Support

• Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders as necessary.

• Liaise with project stakeholders and participants to arrange activities.

• Coordinate requirements, and prepare materials for, research activities/experiments/field trips.

• Perform experiments and/or contribute to research activities with the skills required for the position.

• Undertake literature reviews.

• Assist with the preparation of funding applications.

• Undertake data collection and preliminary analysis.

• Assist with the drafting of progress reports and publications.

• Assist with the preparation of materials and organisation for conference presentations and workshops.

• Facilitate input and updating of research information/activity in relevant databases.

Technical Support

• Assist the research team in the operation of equipment.

• Conduct basic maintenance and minor repairs of research group equipment.

• Monitor and initiate ordering of materials, consumables and equipment, participate in stocktakes, and ensure that delivered goods (including chemicals) and equipment are checked, catalogued, stored and secured by applicable procedures.

• Update and maintain standard operating procedures for all aspects of research group operations including safety, hazardous substances, equipment and workspaces.

• Ensure that research program equipment and laboratory areas are appropriately maintained and cleaned.

Other

• Undertake occasional travel to Curtin University’s Bentley campus in Western Australia to engage with staff and students based at CIRA.

The Construction Performance Analytics & Innovation Research Unit (cPAIRu) at the Department of the Built Environment, National University of Singapore, concentrates on three primary research areas:
1) Project/Organization Performance Analytics and Innovations;
2) Project/Organization Management Strategies for Green Building & Infrastructure; and
3) Project/Organization Digitalization and Innovations.

As a leading international center for research and consultancy in the built environment industry, cPAIRu drives project and organizational innovations and fosters collaborations with both local and international academic and industry partners, while contributing to national development goals through partnerships among students and staff.

The cPAIRu is seeking a Research Assistant experienced in leading and executing research projects independently. The role demands a solid knowledge of project management and an in-depth understanding of digital transformation in the built environment industry. This includes knowledge of technological competencies, organizational readiness, regulatory and strategic developments, applications of smart technology, change management, and performance assessment. The Research Assistant's responsibilities will extend to administrative and management tasks associated with research projects, as well as pursuing a PhD degree under the guidance of the PI.

Ideal candidates should possess substantial research experience in relevant fields, robust data analysis skills, and, preferably, proficiency in programming for GenAI.

The successful applicant will perform academic development work as well as field practical work together with the other research staff/students under the guidance of the PI.
