The Role

The Assistant Head (Pastoral) as a full member of SSLT has a key role to play in both the strategic development of the Senior School and the day-to-day management of it. The Division of Allergy & Immunology at the Department of Paediatrics, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS is looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates with a keen interest in clinical translational research in allergic disease to join our team as a Research Assistant. We run large cohort studies, observational and population health studies in Paediatric Allergy and Immunology to better understand childhood allergic diseases such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) and food allergy, with the goal of understanding disease prevalence, natural history and endophenotypes; developing diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies and advocating for clinical policy changes that would serve to improve health outcomes for children with allergic disorders.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and collaborate with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to conduct various research projects in the field of Paediatric Allergy & Immunology to ensure the successful completion of study measures in a timely manner to achieve high quality and impactful deliverables. The RA’s principal role will be to perform clinical research-related procedures such as subject screening and recruitment, subject follow-ups, coordinating the collection and processing of biological samples, data collection, management and processes, data entry, cleaning and analysis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will be involved in conducting research visits and study procedures and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator (PI) and Project Lead.

The RA will :

1. Assist with Subject screening and recruitment, conduct study visits, perform study procedures and collection of data sets and in strict adherence to approved study protocols, ICH Good Clinical Practice and other applicable regulatory bodies;
2. Assist with biological sample processing, storage and analysis;
3. Maintenance and organization of the investigator site files (ISF), preparation and submissions of documents and/or reports (e.g study amendments, study status reports) to the ethics committee;
4. Assist with grant status reports and preparation of study progress slides during regular meetings with Co-Is and Collaborators;

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Job Capsule

Provide guidance and oversight of classification, certification, and statutory survey work within the Region/ Worldwide. Responsible for maintaining the quality and consistency of the survey work within the Region/ Worldwide and verifying compliance with the applicable ABS and statutory requirements as appropriate.

Job Duties/Roles

1. Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles and processes.

2. Stays up-to-date with ABS Rules, Guides, and Statutory requirements.

3. Develops guidance and training for survey staff on implementation and application of ABS Rules, Guides, and Statutory requirements.

4. Makes survey-related presentations to the Surveyors within the region on a regular basis.

5. Provides oversight through activity monitoring of ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System. Provides input to the regional (Senior) Vice President on survey manpower requirements including quality, quantity, experience, training, and professionalism of Surveyors within the region.

6. Responsible for maintaining the organization, staffing, training and day-to-day operations of the Assistant Chief Surveyor’s office in order to carry out assigned functions. Makes changes to organization, staffing, and budgets, as conditions warrant, with the approval of the regional (Senior) Vice President.

7. Appraises the performance and development potential of direct subordinates and recommends appropriate compensation adjustments.

8. Serves as a member of the regional Quality Steering Committee and Management Review Board.

9. Provides input for survey-related Rule changes.

10. Attends Regional Technical Committees, as necessary, and assist in presentations of survey-related matters.

11. May assist region marketing effort at trade shows and other occasions, as directed by the regional (Senior) Vice President.

12. May make survey-related presentations at trade seminars and Technical Societies, as directed by the regional (Senior) Vice President.

13. May attend meetings of IMO, IACS, TSCF, and other bodies, as directed by the Vice President/Chief Surveyor and/or regional (Senior) Vice President and/or Corporate Executive Vice President and COO.

14. Provides guidance to ABS clients by means of meetings and/or seminars on changes to ABS Rules and Regulatory requirements.

15. Provides input on budgets and business planning when requested by the regional (Senior) Vice President.

16. Keep Vice President/Chief Surveyor and regional (Senior) Vice President advised of major survey-related problems in the region. Provide other input and data as requested by the Vice President/Chief Surveyor

17. Responsible for maintaining the port state control database of detained and/or intervened ABS classed vessels in the region. Liaise with the MOU Regimes, as necessary regarding ABS classed vessels that have been detained by the Port State Authorities.

18. Serves as a member of the Regional Safety Committee.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)

1. Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.

Minimum years of Experience

3. International assignment or significant exposure to international processes, requirements, business issues and problem resolution.

4. Possesses and demonstrates a mastery of the comprehensive body of knowledge in Survey operations.

Required/Preferred Education Requirements

1. Qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two (2) years program); or

2. Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer, and

3. Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of statutory certification and services and, before assignment, with their future work.

The College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) is inviting applications for the post of Full-Time Teaching Assistant (FTTA) for the undergraduate module, HSI1000 How Science Works, Why Science Works. This is the Scientific Inquiry 1 requirement in the common curricular of the college.

The FTTA will work with a team of professors and other FTTAs to achieve teaching and learning goals of the module. CHS. The FTTA must be familiar with administration and data management, be digitally competent, be consultative with peers and quick to adapt to dynamic situations. They must be quick to understand undergraduate student issues, be a communicative team player and possess a passion for teaching. The role will introduce scientific inquiry from a variety of perspectives and the applicant must be comfortable approaching this topic using a multi-disciplinary framework to theoretical and applied experiences for undergraduates.
