PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Research Assistant works under the general direction of Professor Steven Tingay at Curtin Universityās Bentley campus, creating a presence for the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA) in Singapore. They undertake a variety of research support tasks, which may include a mix of administrative, logistical, experimental and/or technical (where applicable) tasks.
DUTIES:
Undertake research support tasks and where applicable, perform technical support tasks which may include, but are not limited to:
Research and Administrative Support
ā¢ Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
ā¢ Liaise with project stakeholders and participants to arrange activities.
ā¢ Coordinate requirements, and prepare materials for, research activities/experiments/field trips.
ā¢ Perform experiments and/or contribute to research activities with the skills required for the position.
ā¢ Undertake literature reviews.
ā¢ Assist with the preparation of funding applications.
ā¢ Undertake data collection and preliminary analysis.
ā¢ Assist with the drafting of progress reports and publications.
ā¢ Assist with the preparation of materials and organisation for conference presentations and workshops.
ā¢ Facilitate input and updating of research information/activity in relevant databases.
Technical Support
ā¢ Assist the research team in the operation of equipment.
ā¢ Conduct basic maintenance and minor repairs of research group equipment.
ā¢ Monitor and initiate ordering of materials, consumables and equipment, participate in stocktakes, and ensure that delivered goods (including chemicals) and equipment are checked, catalogued, stored and secured by applicable procedures.
ā¢ Update and maintain standard operating procedures for all aspects of research group operations including safety, hazardous substances, equipment and workspaces.
ā¢ Ensure that research program equipment and laboratory areas are appropriately maintained and cleaned.
Other
ā¢ Undertake occasional travel to Curtin Universityās Bentley campus in Western Australia to engage with staff and students based at CIRA.
ā¢ Comply and adhere to applicable occupational health and safety criteria at all times.
ā¢ Comply with applicable legislation and regulations relevant to the research areaās activities and Curtin University requirements.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
1. Completion of a relevant degree; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
2. Demonstrated experience in relevant scientific/research methods, techniques, and protocols.
3. Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills with the ability to coordinate activities and prioritise tasks.
4. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collate and analyse data.
5. Demonstrated effectiveness in both written and oral communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and stakeholders and to produce documentation which is clear and concise.
6. Demonstrated competence in the use of word-processing and spreadsheet packages, including the ability to generate reports.
7. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as effectively as part of a team.
