Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)(Presidential Young Professorship)

The Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore invites applications for tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor (Presidential Young Professor) rank, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: media studies, visual communication, science communication, cultural studies, and computational communication. We are especially interested in candidates with a focus on Asia-centred and artificial intelligence research.

The NUS Presidential Young Professorship and NUS Presidential Fellowship Awards aim to attract, support, and empower the brightest and most promising young academics at the early stages of their careers, helping them develop into world-class scholars. As an academic at NUS, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse and dynamic community of scholars and students, pursue excellence and innovation, and make a positive societal impact. Successful PYP candidates are awarded a start-up grant package of either SGD 250,000 or SGD 750,000, depending on the demands of their research programme. They are also granted an additional SGD 250,000 for discretionary spending.

The NUS Department of Communications and New Media is one of the leading global programmes in communication and new media research and education. It offers undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate programmes in communications and new media studies, with an innovative curriculum that covers key debates in media and communication studies, communication management, interactive media design, and cultural studies. The typical teaching load is 2:1 (one or two courses per semester, totalling three per academic year).

Job Description

Irradiation of the brain in early human life may set abnormal developmental events into motion that last a lifetime, leading to the development of different neurological and neuropsychological disorders. By working on post- or pre-natal irradiated mice, the candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the mechanism of disease genesis, could explore to develop modern radiation detection, disease diagnosis techniques and novel therapy to prevent genesis of neurological and neuropsychological disorders from a long-term point view.

We are seeking motivated Research Assistant / Research Associate and the successful incumbent will work with a team of scientists engaged in radiobiology research. The duties include but are not limited to:

• Routine lab work and maintenance
• Small animal handling
• Molecular biology work
• Bioinformatical analysis
• Cell culture
• Histochemical and immunohistochemical staining.

Qualifications

• A B.Sc. and/or Master degree holder in biology or biomedical science
• Prefer to do small animal research work
• 2-3 years of working experience in biomedical research laboratory
• Some background in neuroscience, radiation research, biomarker development and bioinformatical analysis will be a preference
• Good communications skills and a team player
