Job Description
With an expanded focus on fintech and neobanks, Value Added Services (VAS) Issuing Solutions enables capabilities including digital issuance of card credentials, Transaction Controls and Notifications, issuer loyalty programs, card benefits, and ATM services in a variety of forms from API services to full-service on-behalf-of models. Issuing Solutions help Issuers perform better by delivering value added services in a consistent manner through common integrations, at scale, with global reach and evolving capabilities to meet the demands of a digital marketplace.
DPS Forward and VTC SG Team works on a wide variety of projects including DPS (Debit Processing Service) Forward, VTC (Visa Transaction Controls) and VFC (Visa Flexible Credential) to support Value Added Services (VAS) Issuing Solutions as part of the core Visa Technology Organization, driving the diversification of our revenue with products that differentiate our network and deliver valuable solutions across other rails.
Lead Software Engineer
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will help design, enhance and build our solutions for customers in an agile, fast-paced environment. You will be working with colleagues across the company, who will help support and challenge you every day. Designing solutions, writing code, unit testing code, reviewing code and frequent check-ins for continuous integration is just part of your DNA. You will see your code going to production in just a few weeks and used by strategic accounts worldwide. Our team, as well as our group works under the principles of a common engineering model with both development and testing expertise. You are expected to have hands-on experience and sufficient knowledge to contribute on both fronts as needed.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design and develop new system enhancements as well as fix defects in existing software
- Play the main Lead role to understand high-level product requirements and help the team translate that to low-level engineering design for new features.
- Be able to come up with and evangelize architectural guidelines from an engineering standpoint to develop massively scalable, distributed systems.
- Review and recommend Visa and open-source / commercial libraries to deliver best-in-class software as per project requirements.
- Lead meetings and discussions with product and architecture teams.
- Help our clients achieve their business goals by understanding their requirements and delivering the best solution.
- Lead and provide technical mentoring to a team of talented engineers and guide them on DEV and QA best practices.
- Leverage newer technologies and lead efforts to architect, design and implement / test various aspects of secure payment solutions.
- Understand and enhance coding guidelines and oversee code review processes.
- Review test strategy and test cases developed by test engineers to ensure optimum quality of solutions being delivered.
- Adhere to Agile / Scrum best practices and plan well in advance for sprint-based DEV and QA to ensure smooth releases on time and with high quality.
- Contribute towards team’s innovation agenda by leading efforts for participation in Hackathon and similar events through submission of unique ideas for payment solutions.
- Have a passion for emerging GenAI technologies, with an ability to understand and align with Visa’s strategy in this area and guiding and shaping team’s adoption plan accordingly.
- Excellent interpersonal skills along with a team player focus, with an ability to hone leadership skills over time and work as a mentor to junior team members in future.

We want our Lead Software Engineer to do much more than just write code. You would be expected to bring in expertise that include experience that will demonstrate proficiency and ease with one or more programming languages, quality assurance, scripting languages and operating systems.
- Solid hands-on development experience in backend technologies including JAVA, J2EE, SQL and related technology stack, preferably incorporating open source libraries.
- Hands-on experience in Spring Framework, Spring Boot, MongoDB and JPA / Hibernate is required.
- Hands on experience in distributed architecture & data streaming approaches like Kafka and RabbitMQ is required.
- Strong foundation expected in data structures, algorithms, problem solving and complexity analysis.
- Strong designing, analytical, programming & communication skills needed, along with aptitude for building stable solutions.
- 6-8 years demonstrated experience with n-tier web application development and experience in latest JDK is required. Java / J2EE certification is a Plus. Experience with web services standards and related technologies (XML, JSON, REST, SOAP, WS*, AXIS, JERSEY) is nice to have.
- Knowledge about writing unit test cases using frameworks like JUnit / TestNG is required.
- Demonstrable experience utilizing object-oriented patterns and design best practices is required.
- Experience working with a variety of Application Servers and Databases such as Tomcat and Oracle is required. Other technologies such as MongoDB or Cassandra or Couchbase is a strong plus.
- Good understanding of multi-threaded concurrent programming is needed. Experience with non-blocking IO is an added plus.
- Exposure to tools like Postman / any REST Client is desired. LINUX skills are required.
- High-level knowledge about various testing methodologies such as functional testing, integration testing, regression testing, penetration testing & performance testing is necessary.
- Exposure to frameworks like Karate and TestNG is good to have to carry out QA tasks. Some knowledge of test automation frameworks is also a strong plus.
- Experience with Front End Web Technology such as HTML, JavaScript, CSS and JS Libraries like React.JS is a plus.
- Familiarity with common application security vulnerabilities and how to overcome them (OWASP) is a strong plus.
- Working knowledge of Continuous Integration / Delivery, and Test Driven Development is good to have.
- Knowledge in micro services and hands-on experience on container platforms like Kubernetes, Docker and OpenShift is required.
- Knowledge on Performance analysis tools like Riverbed and Monitoring tools like Splunk and Opera would be required.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• 15 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 10 years of relevant experience with a PhD in Computer Science or other technology field.
• Typically, candidates are expected to have 15+ years of experience working in a technology company on Java and related technologies. Experience in delivering enterprise-class, mission-critical, commercial, and scalable products is a must-have.
