The Department of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, National University Hospital is seeking candidates for our fellowship in Vascular Surgery under National University Heart Centre, Singapore. We are a 1,400 bed hospital with full range of vascular surgery services. There are 6 Consultant surgeons in the vascular division. We have an aortic center which offer full range of open, endovascular as well as hybrid surgery and both cardiac and vascular surgeons worked closely together. The vascular unit performs over 1,600 procedures in all aspect of vascular surgery. The fellowship will be at registrar/senior registrar level and you are expected to do on call at frequency of 1:4 Rota to 1:5.

As we are an academic unit of vascular surgery, fellows are expected to participate in research and teaching. We are now looking for a Recovery Nurse to support the functions at our Day-Surgery & Endoscopy Centre.

The successful candidate will be performing the following duties, but not limited to:

• Manage patient admission/transfer/discharge procedures.
• Perform perioperative assessment of the patient for surgery / Endoscopy procedure.
• Receive immediate post-procedure patient in recovery, assess status, and provide appropriate care.
• Vital signs monitoring (Temp, HR, RR, SPO2).
• Demonstrates proper airway management techniques.
• Recognises signs and symptoms of patient’s condition that indicate potential post-procedure or anesthesia-related complications and reports to anaesthesiologist immediately.

Qualification / Work Experience Requirements:

• Diploma in Nursing, at least 2 years of Ambulatory surgery or acute hospital recovery setting.
• Competent in monitoring patients with sedation.
• Experience in monitoring patients and care of patients in recovery.
• Knowledge in serving oral medication and IM injection as ordered.
• Knowledge in the use of infusion pumps as needed.
• Competent in giving patients post-op instructions and discharge instructions as indicated.

Summary:

Roles and Responsibilities:

Patient Care Management

▪ Scheduling patient appointments and making reminder calls.

▪ Handle patient enquires via phone/emails/ whatsapp

▪ Assist doctor during consultation and clinic procedures

▪ Handle ordering of radiology exams, blood tests and other orders for patients, and also tracing of such reports for follow up consultations

▪ Provide clear instructions on the aforementioned exams

▪ Handle booking of operation theatres, wards, anaesthetist, frozen sections and others for a surgery

▪ Provide financial Counselling to patients who need to go for surgeries and provides, by giving estimates total fees

Administrative Management

▪ Registering and billing of patients visits

▪ Submit claims for outpatient visits on TPA portals

▪ Maintain clinic inventory and equipment, including coordinating with external vendors for purchasing and maintenance of equipment and services

▪ Call for maintenance and repair work.

Job Requirements:

Responsibilities

Clinical Nursing Quality and Safety

• Provide a consistent and excellent clinical and service quality to residents and sponsors.
• Responsible for the clinical quality of all residents guided by the set 4 Zeros clinical indicators – Zero Falls, Zero Medication Errors, Zero Nursing Home Acquired Pressure Ulcers and Zero Nursing Home acquired infection.

Clinical Care

• Responsible for the safe delivery of care and clinical decisions to all residents.
• Render clinical care and nursing procedures including proper assessment of residents, administration of medications, injections, perform complex wound dressings and monitoring of vital signs.

Clinical Supervision

• Plan and carry out the daily activities for the residents and maintain an accurate log-book.
• Assist the Physiotherapist/Therapist Assistant in their rehabilitation program for the residents and encourage residents’ participation.

Resource Management

• Assist in proper management of food costs by cutting wastes and monitor the efficient use of consumables, supplies, dressing materials and diapers accordingly.
• Maintain and upkeep a proper inventory control with regular inspection.

Medical Matters

• Work closely with the Medical Doctor in reviewing treatment and management of residents’condition.

Feedback Management

• Assist in any investigation and resolve all feedback and complaints received from therespective centres.

Other Duties

• Assume any other additional responsibilities as assigned by Senior Nurse Manager/ NurseManager/Assistant Nurse Manager/Senior Staff Nurses (SNM/NM/ANM/SSN).
• Act as a liaison person with the respective hospitals, resident’s sponsors on the dailymedical appointment.
• Assist in provision of holistic cleanliness of resident care area.
• Deputise for SCM/SNM/CM/NM/ACM/ANM/SSN in her absence.
• Maintain an accurate log book on daily activities in the centre
• Maintain good communication skills with residents and sponsors.

Qualifications

• Locally Trained: Degree or Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Nursing with valid licence from SNB will be an added advantage
• Foreign Trained: Degree or Diploma in Nursing with Board Pass (Professional Regulation Council).
• State Registered Nurse with valid practicing license issued by the Singapore Nursing Board.
• Valid certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
• At least 2-3 years of post-registration experience, with exposure to geriatric care settings will be an added advantage.
