Key Responsibilities

• To provide a high standard of care to patients through care management, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to meet the needs of the patients.
• To initiate appropriate nursing interventions and organizational guidelines (e.g. first aid and emergency interventions) to improve patient outcomes and secure the safety of patients and staff of the department.
• To perform triage according to Singapore 4-points Patient Acuity Category Scale (PACs) and determine the clinical urgency of the patient.
• To participate in action plans for the unit to enhance and maximize employee engagement and performance.
• To participate in departmental/hospital projects relating to quality improvement and others.

Requirements

• Minimum Degree / Diploma in Nursing.
• Advanced Diploma or Post-basic qualification in Emergency Nursing or equivalent will have an added advantage.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in a tertiary hospital.
• A meticulous and analytical team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Able to perform rotating shifts.

Job Description

The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily nursing operations within the nursing home, ensuring high standards of care, and managing the nursing team. This role includes leadership, clinical guidance, staff management, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of patient care practices. The Nurse Manager plays a key role in enhancing the quality of care, promoting a positive working environment, and ensuring optimal care for residents.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Staff Management and Leadership:

• Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of nurses and nursing assistants.
• Provide guidance, support, and regular performance evaluations for nursing staff.
• Ensure adequate staffing levels through recruitment, training, and scheduling.
• Foster a collaborative, respectful, and professional working environment within the nursing team.
• Conduct regular team meetings to discuss patient care issues, staff concerns, and other relevant matters.

2. Clinical Care Oversight:

• Oversee patient assessments and the development and implementation of care plans.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care to all residents.
• Monitor and evaluate resident health and wellbeing, responding to changes in condition and coordinating appropriate interventions.
• Ensure adherence to best practices, clinical protocols, and care standards in the provision of nursing services.

3. Quality and Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with the nursing home’s policies and quality standards, HCSA Act and regulations set by the Ministry of Health.
• Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance programs to maintain a safe and effective clinical environment.
• Address and resolve any issues or deficiencies identified during inspections or audits.
• Promote continuous quality improvement initiatives, focusing on resident outcomes, safety, and satisfaction.

4. Training and Development:

• Identify staff training needs and coordinate professional development programs for nursing staff.
• Conduct and/or organize ongoing in-service education sessions to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
• Support the development of nursing staff through mentorship and coaching, ensuring they are up to date with current nursing practices and standards.

5. Resident and Family Relations:

• Maintain open communication with residents, families, and other healthcare providers regarding the care plan, progress, and any changes in condition.
• Resolve any concerns or issues raised by residents or family members promptly and professionally.
• Promote a culture of compassion and respect in dealing with residents and their families.

6. Administrative Duties:

• Oversee documentation and record-keeping for nursing-related activities in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Review and manage nursing-related policies and procedures to ensure they are current and compliant.
• Ensure proper handling of medical supplies and equipment, including inventory control and proper usage.
• Assist in the preparation of budgets and resource allocation for the nursing department.

7. Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, therapists and dietitians, to provide comprehensive care to residents.
• Participate in interdepartmental meetings to contribute to the overall operational success of the nursing home.
• Communicate effectively with senior management regarding nursing department goals, performance, and challenges.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

• Valid Registered Nurse practicing certificate issued by Singapore Nursing Board
• Degree in nursing
• Post-registration qualification in clinical nursing (e.g., advanced diploma, post-graduate, post-basic nursing qualification)
• Valid certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years experience in managing a team and overseeing the delivery of nursing care in a long-term care or similar healthcare setting
• Minimum 8 years experience as a Registered Nurse in nursing homes, inpatient hospice, and/or inpatient wards in both acute and community hospitals
• Preferably with experience in geriatric care

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and clinical protocols.
• Proficient in using electronic health records and other clinical documentation systems.
• IT-savvy with the ability to adapt to new technology systems and tools to improve operational efficiency.

• Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Knowledge of HCSA Act and MOH regulations.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, from staff to senior management, and with residents and families.

Working Conditions:

• Work is primarily performed in a nursing home environment.
• Will be required to handle emergency or unexpected situations involving residents.

• Create and conduct orientation programs for new hires and ongoing competency-based training for current staff, ensuring alignment with local guidelines and best practices.
• Ensure educational content is updated regularly compliance with MOH regulations.
• Provide hands-on training and clinical supervision, ensuring nursing staff are equipped to deliver high-quality care
• Facilitate case discussions, simulations, and workshops to promote clinical excellence and critical thinking.
• Mentor and guide nursing staff in their professional development, encouraging continuous learning and the pursuit of advanced certifications.
• Utilize data, feedback, and insights to refine educational programs and address any gaps in knowledge or performance.
• Participate in audits, reviews, and MOH inspections to assess the effectiveness of training programs and their impact on patient outcomes.
• Serve as a resource and role model for nursing staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning and excellence
• Work closely with nursing leadership, interdisciplinary teams, and external partners, including government agencies, to coordinate educational efforts and align with national healthcare priorities.
• Represent the nursing education department in meetings, committees, and professional forums
• Maintain accurate records of educational activities, staff competencies, and certifications, ensuring they meet MOH requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Singaporean healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
• Prepare reports and presentations on the outcomes and impact of educational programs for internal and external stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) and relevant post-basic advanced certificates are required; Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, or a related field preferred.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license recognized by the Singapore Nursing Board.
• Certification in Nurse Education (e.g., CNE) or equivalent is preferred. Advanced training certificates (e.g., ACLP) are an advantage.
