Purpose of the position
As a Service Engineer with expertise in steel work, you will be responsible for supervising the structural steel repairs, including welding, fabrication, and modifications on Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vessels and hatch covers on container vessels and bulk carriers. You will ensure that all steelwork adheres to industry standards and vessel safety regulations, while leading a team of engineers and subcontractors.
This role requires in-depth knowledge of steel structures and the
capability to manage projects efficiently and safely, ensuring high-quality service for MacGregor and third-party products when necessary
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Steel Work Supervision: Supervise structural steel repairs, including welding, fabrication, and modifications on RoRo vessels, container vessels, and bulk carriers, ensuring compliance with industry and safety standards.
- Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, corrective actions, and upgrades on MacGregor equipment, including RoRo ramps, doors, and hatches.
- Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of steel structures and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Project Management: Lead and manage subcontractors during larger steel repair projects, ensuring the work is completed on time and within budget.
- Customer Support: Establish and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external customers, providing technical support and feedback to the relevant teams.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all Quality, Health, Safety,and Environmental (QHSE) standards and site-specific safety protocols.
What you’ll need to succeed
Education:
- Diploma in Marine Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification in mechanical, marine, or steel fabrication fields.
- Engineering graduates are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in supervising steelwork, particularly with RoRo/Hatch Cover systems or in marine environments.
- Strong background in mechanical, hydraulic, and steel structures is essential.
- Experience working in ports,onboard ships, and offshore environments is preferred
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficient in welding and steel fabrication techniques, with supervisory
- experience.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to lead teams and manage projects independently.
- Fluent in English; multilingual skills are an asset.
- Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
