Job Description

The Singapore Population Health Studies (SPHS) is a population-based health research initiative at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. SPHS aims to investigate the interactions between lifestyle, physiological, genetic and other omics biomarkers and their impact on health and longevity. In addition, SPHS will serve as a platform to monitor risk factors in the population and gain insight into determinants of health-related behaviours. For this purpose, SPHS includes over 50,000 adult Singaporeans and long-term residents from three major ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay, and Indian), for a better understanding of disease aetiology in urban Asian settings, and the development of improved preventive and therapeutic measures for Singapore and other Asian populations.

JOB PURPOSE
This role primarily involves the recruitment and data collection activities of the public health research projects under the SPHS unit that will contribute towards the building of a population health biobank for Singapore.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Take consent from research participants before performing any research procedures
2. Perform basic assessments that include measurements of blood pressure, hip and waist circumference, visual acuity, hand grip strength etc. and enter the measurements into the correct electronic form via a tablet. Keep to a turnaround time of 8-10min per participant.
3. Perform ECG and keep to a turnaround time of 5-7min per participant.
4. Minimise the waiting of participants by directing them to next most available test station.
5. Assist participants if needed to navigate and read the e-survey questions

Role Duties:

• Assisting in safety inductions and orientations for workers.
• Explaining WSH compliance and safe work practices to subordinates.
• Participating in WSH inspections and routine safety checks on work activities.
• Gathering data on WSH performance, conditions, and practices.
• Identifying and reporting non-compliance or unsafe conditions in the workplace.
• Delivering safety briefings to relevant stakeholders and intervening in unsafe behaviours.
• Coordinating responses to incidents and emergencies, including participation in emergency drills and preparedness plans.
• Aiding in the identification of WSH risks and the development of action plans for WSH improvements.
• Assisting with risk management (RM) plans and risk assessments in work areas.
• Preparing inspection reports, documenting findings, and suggesting corrective actions.
• Reviewing safety documents, including permits to work, toolbox meeting records, and conducting safety inspections on-site.
• Providing on-site safety training and conducting ad hoc site visits to ensure adherence to safety protocols.

Candidate Profile:

• Professional Diploma or degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Engineering or equivalent
• WSQ Workplace Safety and Health/First Aid/CPR/Registered Safety Officer certifications is highly advantageous.
• Relevant work experience of 1-2 years in safety or health management.
• Familiarity with Workplace Safety Health Act
• Attention to details and proactive attitude is highly advantageous

Job Responsibilities

• To carry out supervisory roles in day-to-day site activities including taking care of workers and coordinating with client’s supervisory staff to manage inspections, etc.
• Ensure that all construction & M&E work is carried out or constructed according to the approved plans and design.
• Ensure all works are carried out within time schedule, follow the safety protocols, and maintain the required quality.
• Coordinate with fellow colleagues from different departments to ensure the smooth transition of M&E works and eliminate abortive works through regular discussions.
• Ensure proper preparation of work areas for subcontractors to carry out their works and ensure adequate materials preparation for execution.
• Monitor performance of subcontractors, evaluate the progress and manpower to ensure adequacy and adherence to schedule.
• Keep daily site records of manpower, materials usage, and works status.
• Attends all necessary M&E work progress meetings, internal meetings as & when required.
• Embraces safety and ensures all practices comply with safety regulations.
• Any other duties as assigned.

• Minimum 3 years of M&E Supervisory experience.
• Good verbal and written communication skill.
