Job Description

Research Fellow position is open in the research group of Assistant Professor Zhao Lin, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Research Fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on theories and applications of learning-based control. The project will investigate and develop both deep reinforcement learning algorithms and conventional robust adaptive control methods, to develop safety-critical learning-based control algorithms that leverage the advantages of both model-based and model-free methods. In particular, the developed algorithms will be demonstrated through robust control of drones.

The initial appointment duration is 12 months, which can then be extended based on an evaluation at the end of the initial appointment.

The candidates will be responsible for conducting theoretical research and algorithm development. The candidates are expected to help the PI supervise junior PhD students as well.

The candidates should have a Ph.D. degree from a reputable university, with expertise in robust adaptive control, reinforcement learning theory, collision-avoidance trajectory optimization, etc.

A successful candidate should have a solid mathematical background (such as in calculus, linear algebra, optimization, etc.). Strong publication records in leading journals and conferences are required.

Position overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our planning and control team. As part of this team, you will work on cutting-edge research and development of planning algorithms that enable autonomous systems to navigate complex environments safely and efficiently. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about advancing the field of autonomy and robotics. You will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of behavior and motion planning systems while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Role responsibilities

• Improve the existing software architecture and design the right software architecture for new components
• Design and develop clean, fast, reliable code
• Implement advanced features for autonomous vehicles
• Uphold code quality continuous integration, automated testing, and code reviews
• Drive software engineering best practices and processes
• Create technical design documents
• Mentor other software engineers

Required experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or related fields
• 5+ years experience writing production-quality code in modern C++
• Understanding of behavior planning, decision-making frameworks (e.g., finite state machines, behavior trees), or related AI techniques.
• Experience with Motion Planning algorithms, such as RRT, RRT*, and other graph-search based algorithms
• Experience developing in a Linux environment
• Strong organization and communication skills
• Flexible problem-solver
• Bonus experience
• Experience with ROS or other similar middleware
• Experience with real world safety critical applications
• Experience deploying software tools and/or metrics

Responsibilities:

• Review, validate and monitor budgets, funds, expenditures, forecasts, and contingency drawdown for respective projects throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• Review cost estimates, develop and maintain forecasts, and cost control plans for assigned projects.
• Track and analyze project expenditures, identifying variances from budgets and recommending corrective actions.
• Conduct cost risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to minimize budget deviations.
• Support to review and analyze material contracts and contractor subcontracts, ensuring alignment with project specifications and budget parameters.
• Manage and track change orders associated with material contracts and subcontracts, ensuring proper cost control carried out and approval processes is in accordance to Micron’s Construction Management of Change (CMOC)
• Support in reviewing estimate and justification for change according to Micron’s Change Management process.
• Collaborate with project teams across engineering, procurement, and construction disciplines to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost savings, presenting findings to management and recommending actions.
• Monitor and verify project costs, including materials, labor, and equipment, ensuring accurate cost allocation based on Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and financial reporting.
• Carry out regular updates to WBS dictionary and ensure standardization is effectively used throughout the project.
• Prepare comprehensive cost reports and presentations for project stakeholders. Maintain a strong understanding of cost control principles and best practices within the semiconductor industry.
• Utilize cost control software and tools to manage project financials effectively.
• Implement and oversee cost auditing processes to ensure compliance with company policies and financial regulations, identifying and resolving discrepancies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or a related field.
• 7 to 10 years of working experience in the Construction Industry
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in cost control, preferably within the semiconductor industry or a similar capital projects environment.
• Strong understanding of cost estimating, budgeting, and forecasting methodologies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and cost control software.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Contingency Drawdown management and Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA)
• Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.
• Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and equipment.

Job duties:

• Creating strategic business development plans to hit sales target for selling Direct Drive Rotary Motors, Linear Motors, and other motion control components
• Hunting for new customers and gathering market insight
• Understanding client needs and able to create presentations with strong product knowledge
• Making deals with customers and ensuring alignment with company plan
• Making proposals and product demonstrations to clients
• Coordinating with all related stakeholders to improve components offering & good sales strategies
• Degree in any field
• Strong business development experience and knowledge for motion control technologies
