What is the role?
Yinson GreenTech is looking for a skilled Service Engineer to join our marine division (“marinEV”). The primary focus of this role is on the engineering, maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) for battery electric vessels and charging stations. The successful candidate will work closely with ESS suppliers, perform hands-on fieldwork with high-voltage systems, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of power electronic equipment. This role requires extensive field experience, strong knowledge of electrical systems, and a commitment to maintain the highest standards of safety and performance uptime for marinEV vessels
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
System Maintenance & Support:
- ESS Maintenance: Perform routine and preventative maintenance on Energy Storage Systems (ESS) installed on electric vessels, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- High-Voltage Systems: Work safely with high-voltage systems, following industry best practices and safety protocols.
- Power Electronics: Maintain and troubleshoot power electronic equipment, including inverters, converters, and battery management systems (BMS).
- Mechanical Handling: Handle mechanical components of ESS, including battery modules, cooling systems, and structural supports, ensuring proper installation and maintenance.
- Software Updates: Collaborate with software engineers to implement software updates, perform diagnostics, and resolve issues related to vessel control systems.
Commissioning & Testing:
- System Commissioning: Lead the commissioning of ESS and related systems on new and retrofitted electric vessels, ensuring all systems are fully operational and meet design specifications.
- Testing & Validation: Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of ESS, power electronics, and control systems, ensuring performance, safety, and compliance with industry safety standards.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues during the commissioning phase, working closely with the engineering team and ESS suppliers to implement effective solutions.
- Field Support: Provide field support during sea trials and operational testing, ensuring that all systems perform as expected under real-world conditions.
Collaboration & Coordination:
- Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with ESS suppliers to coordinate maintenance activities, obtain technical support, and ensure that all system components meet required specifications.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to ensure the seamless integration of ESS with vessel systems. Work closely with QHSE Manager to develop procedures for the safe handling of batteries during emergency incidents.
- Technical Documentation: Assist in the preparation and review of technical documentation, including maintenance manuals, commissioning reports, and test protocols.
Safety & Compliance:
- Safety Protocols: Adhere to strict safety protocols when working with high-voltage systems and power electronic equipment, ensuring the safety of all personnel involved.
- Compliance: Ensure all maintenance and commissioning activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Risk Assessment: Participate in risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to address potential safety hazards associated with ESS and high-voltage systems.
Continuous Improvement:
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement in maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities, contributing to the continuous enhancement of operational efficiency.
- Technology Updates: Stay updated with the latest advancements in ESS technology, power electronics, and marine electrification, and apply this knowledge to improve system performance and reliability.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Technical Documentation: Prepare / maintain detailed technical IOM documentation, including system specifications, design documents, test plans, and maintenance manuals.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of design changes, modifications, and maintenance activities, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
Requirements
- Diploma or associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Good use of Word and Excel.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with Energy Storage Systems, high-voltage systems, and power electronic equipment, preferably in a marine or industrial setting.
- Proficient in working with high-voltage systems and power electronics.
- Able to write Technical Reports.
- Familiarity with software updates, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of control systems.
