The Role
This position constitutes a very exciting and unique opportunity to mature with, and help shape the design area at SUTD. Along the way, the candidate will interact with the governing bodies in Singapore, the funding agencies and the industrial eco-system.

The successful candidate will work across all areas of academic activity: education, research, service to the university, and outreach. The candidate will be part of an innovative team, where he/she will utilise his/her demonstrated skills in blended learning to develop and deliver high-quality student-centred undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He/she will make a positive contribution to an already established innovation culture and mindset for students at all levels, and engage and work with industry on challenging research problems.
The candidate will engage in engineering design research and teaching at all levels, from first-year undergraduate to PhD level, in multiple design courses, either co-teaching, leading a team of colleagues, or being the sole instructor. Courses that have to do with topics like Engineering Design Innovation, Design Thinking, and Design Science (to name just a few) from an Engineering perspective, heavy on research tools and research methods.

Design is taught at all levels of higher education, including adult and executive learning . Building or strengthening a research interest around the teaching of technically grounded design or the application of design in engineering to the growth areas defined at SUTD (Sustainability, Cities, Aviation, Healthcare, and AI) will enable you to connect with all relevant stakeholders in and around SUTD.

Requirements

The candidate must have:

• A PhD in Engineering, with a proven record of teaching and research in engineering design and related topics
• Proven experience in working autonomously and in teams, multi-tasking between teaching and research
• An appetite for improving teaching and learning of engineering design
• A willingness to tackle complex problems in engineering design research, potentially spanning across multiple application domains
• The ability to interact both face-to-face as well as virtually with students, peers, and all relevant stakeholders
• The drive to network and engage with funding agencies and companies, and secure the necessary funding to conduct research and build a well-connected research team

• Experience in teaching in other educational environments, like executive education and/or lifelong learning

Within the Programme on Urban Innovation, we are seeking a full-time Research Assistant to contribute to the study of placekeeping, which involves the long-term management and maintenance of place. With a mixed-methods research approach, we will examine who the key stakeholders are in placekeeping, how they collaborate, and what facilitates or hinders their collaboration. The study aims to establish a methodology and framework that will enable the systematic investigation of placekeeping and inform future policies and practices related to placekeeping in Singapore.

About the Position:

This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about placemaking, placekeeping, and community engagement in urban planning and design and is looking to gain experience for a future career in research.

You will:

We are looking for a research officer to apply biomolecular modelling methods, including homology modelling and molecular dynamics, to understand the molecular mechanisms of coding variants that are associated with type 2 diabetes. Requirements

Responsibilities

Managerial responsibilities for a team of nine

Responsible for design and creativity on projects from concept design and space planning through to development and presentation, ensuring high quality outputs and creativity.

Actively seek and share inspiration and reference from sources outside of the business to support creative design solutions.

Produce concept work using hand sketches and a variety of digital and traditional media to a high standard whilst directing the work of other junior team members on the project.

Produce and check drawing packages for schematic and detail design stages

Assemble presentations using a variety of digital and traditional media, particularly power point.

Attend client meetings alone or with the support of the project leader leading or contributing to client presentations.

Competently source reference material and carry out research to ensure that materials and products are fit for purpose.

Responsibilities:

• Create mood boards, develop designs, and present them.
• Conduct research on designs and fabrics, source materials, and prepare prototypes.

• To assist and work closely with the research team SUTD PI and Research Fellow in managing and coordinating all matters in the project
• To arrange and schedule experiment/interview appointments with university students, healthy elderly participants, elderly care centres, or other target population
• To undertake data collection, data entry, data analysis, etc.
• Assist in the preparation and writing of progress reports, presentations, and abstracts to conferences.
• To undertake and support administrative work, such as procurement and purchasing laboratory items, liaising with relevant internal and external parties, etc.

Requirements:

• Degree in Civil Engineering recognized by the PE Board
• At least 7 years of marine civil design experience in a large-scale project.
• Good knowledge in international and domestic standards for design work.
• Experience in marine structure D&B plant project and overseas ODA project is an added advantage.
