Who are we looking for?

We are seeking highly motivated combustion researchers to work in the following areas:

1) Kinetics: (i) Experiments with flow reactors and laminar flames. The successful applicant will be skilled in analytical combustion chemistry systems such as gas chromatography and laser detection; (ii) Development of detailed and reduced chemical mechanisms. Experience in combustion chemistry modelling is needed.

2) Laminar and turbulent flame fundamentals: (i) Experiments with laminar pulsed and turbulent swirl flames. Skills in flame rig design, laser diagnostics and optical methods for flames are needed. (ii) Modelling with combustion Computational Fluid Dynamics (DNS, LES), with experience in the fundamentals of turbulent combustion, CFD and massively-parallel computations.

3) High-pressure combustion: Experiments and simulations for reciprocating engines and gas turbines. For the experimental positions, the successful candidate must be skilled in optical diagnostics, engine combustion, swirl combustion, fluids handling and data analysis. For the modelling positions, experience in CFD of engines or gas turbine combustors is a prerequisite.

4) Detonations and ignition risk analysis with CFD. The position involves high-order CFD methods for capturing detonations and turbulent flow analysis for ignition. The successful candidate must be experienced with CFD.

All positions require a PhD or equivalent research experience in a combustion topic relevant to the above areas, strong motivation to work in a multi-national collaborative team, and extensive experience with report writing, journal publications, and presentations to academic and industrial settings. We are the University of Cambridge research centre in Singapore called Cambridge CARES, sponsored by the NRF CREATE program CAM.CREATE. Health-driven design for cities (HD4) is a collaborative research programme between the University of Cambridge, NTU and NUS within Cambridge CARES.

HD4 sits at the heart of Singapore’s global research and development hub and paves the way for a sustainable and healthy city. It will undertake research in the following key areas: characterising the features of the environment that potentially impact health in Singapore; understanding the links between environmental factors, individual behaviour and health outcomes; observing the impact of environmental change on health in Singapore; simulating the impact of potential changes on the health of Singaporeans; and working with government agencies to co-develop data-rich public health tools.

The scientific techniques, technologies, tools and most importantly the knowledge gained through the programme will create a comprehensive systems view of how the urban environment affects population health in Singapore. The programme will train and enrich the talent pool of next generation of researchers, and benefit from local and international expertise and an innovative interdisciplinary research ecosystem. It will provide the basis for a data-rich public health framework, supporting the development of a healthy Singapore.

Work Package 1, led by Assoc. Prof. Rudi STOUFFS (NUS) and Ronita Bardhan (Cambridge), targets the identification and assembly of existing geocoded environmental datasets and linkage to individual behaviour and health outcomes. We will use existing data to analyse the built and natural environments in Singapore and construct profiles of urban environmental exposures at both population and individual levels. We will compile and map a set of environmental indicators and discover urban environmental exposure archetypes. These will be linked to the record of each study participant’s individual behaviour and health outcome.

A postdoctoral research fellow to conduct the following work activities:

The project:

In the context of the multi-partner project HYCOMBS (https://www.cares.cam.ac.uk/research/hycombs/), which is part of Singapore’s CREATE investment in Decarbonisation (https://www.nrf.gov.sg/files/Media_Release_CREATE_Decarbonisation_Challenge_with_ANNEX_A__B_final.pdf), a large number of positions have become available to research hydrogen and ammonia combustion.

The project is a collaborative effort between CARES, CNRS, NTU, NUS, NTNU (National Technical University of Norway) and Tohoku University (Japan). All the positions are held in Singapore and will normally last 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility to extend if funding is available. The successful candidate will be working under the academic supervision of one of the project’s partners depending on the particular skills and interests of the researcher. Short stays in Japan, France and Norway for working in the partner laboratories are envisaged for some of these positions. Who are we looking for?

We are seeking highly motivated combustion researchers to work in the following areas:

1) Kinetics: (i) Experiments with flow reactors and laminar flames. The successful applicant will be skilled in analytical combustion chemistry systems such as gas chromatography and laser detection; (ii) Development of detailed and reduced chemical mechanisms. Experience in combustion chemistry modelling is needed.

2) Laminar and turbulent flame fundamentals: (i) Experiments with laminar pulsed and turbulent swirl flames. Skills in flame rig design, laser diagnostics and optical methods for flames are needed. (ii) Modelling with combustion Computational Fluid Dynamics (DNS, LES), with experience in the fundamentals of turbulent combustion, CFD and massively-parallel computations.

3) High-pressure combustion: Experiments and simulations for reciprocating engines and gas turbines. For the experimental positions, the successful candidate must be skilled in optical diagnostics, engine combustion, swirl combustion, fluids handling and data analysis. For the modelling positions, experience in CFD of engines or gas turbine combustors is a prerequisite.

4) Detonations and ignition risk analysis with CFD. The position involves high-order CFD methods for capturing detonations and turbulent flow analysis for ignition. The successful candidate must be experienced with CFD.

HD4 sits at the heart of Singapore’s global research and development hub and paves the way for a sustainable and healthy city. The scientific techniques, technologies, tools and most importantly the knowledge gained through the programme will create a comprehensive systems view of how the urban environment affects population health in Singapore. The programme will train and enrich the talent pool of next generation of researchers, and benefit from local and international expertise and an innovative interdisciplinary research ecosystem. It will provide the basis for a data-rich public health framework, supporting the development of a healthy Singapore.

Work Package 1, led by Assoc. Prof. Rudi STOUFFS (NUS) and Ronita Bardhan (Cambridge), targets the identification and assembly of existing geocoded environmental datasets and linkage to individual behaviour and health outcomes. We will use existing data to analyse the built and natural environments in Singapore and construct profiles of urban environmental exposures at both population and individual levels. We will compile and map a set of environmental indicators and discover urban environmental exposure archetypes. These will be linked to the record of each study participant’s individual behaviour and health outcome.

Who are we looking for?

A research associate to conduct the following work activities:

· Compute urban heat island (UHI) intensity to include the interaction of urban morphogenetics such as urban form, sky-view factor, and local temperature anomalies.

· Compute human biometeorology indices such as physiological equivalent temperature (PET) and universal thermal climate index (UTCI).

· Compute humid-heat stress by integrating spatially averaged ambient meteorological data.

· Assess the spatial distribution of heat health risks, identify the climate adaptation capacity of vulnerable groups and neighbourhoods.

· Evaluate the social impacts of climate change (e.g., temperature, heat stress) on human health and mobility behaviour.

· Compute a novel humid-heat index by using multi-modal data, combining geostatistical, AI, and urban physical modelling, apportioned to the chosen unit of analysis.

· Contribute to writing articles for publication in reputable journals.

What skills will you need?

· A Master’s degree in urban planning or geography or a strongly related field from a reputable university.

· Experience in conducting research.

· Expertise in urban heat assessment, health risk and equality analysis, and strong geospatial analysis skills.

· Good command of GIS and geospatial modelling software (e.g., Python, R).

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Transport Modeller to join our project, HD4. Working collaboratively with a team of population health scientists, geospatial scientists, and data engineers, the post holder will lead on building an agent-based simulation model for Singapore. This role requires a multi-skilled individual that can work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

· Collaboration: Work closely with researchers to understand the data needs of the programme and contribute to the design of scientifically robust and policy relevant models linking transport, the built environment, and health outcomes

· Data synthesis: Collaborate with the data engineer and geo-spatial scientists to run simulations within a temporally and spatially detailed network

· Model building: Build operational agent based behavioural models covering vehicle ownership, trip generation, mode choice, destination choice, and route choice for diverse population groups.

· Validation: Ensure model robustness through checking, calibration, and validation.

· Support: Provide technical support and training to researchers.

The Gaunt group are looking for passionate and creative scientist to join our team as postdoctoral researchers in synthetic chemistry based in Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore, and closely integrated with the Gaunt group @ the University of Cambridge. CARES is leading a new project “Sustainable Manufacture of Molecules and Materials (SM3)”, funded by NRF CREATE programme within the Decarbonisation Grand Challenge. SM3 project is a collaboration with NTU, NUS, CARES & the University of Cambridge and EPFL. The broad aim of the project is to develop novel approaches and technologies for fully de-fossilised routes to complex functional molecules and molecular materials. The project will explore novel chemical transformations for conversion of net-zero feedstocks to building blocks typically used in pharma, agrochem and other end applications. The project will also explore novel synthetic methods for conversion of the building blocks into end-use functional molecules. Novel synthesis technologies (photoelectrochemistry, sonochemistry, mechanochemistry, etc), as well as advanced research methods (AI, chemoinformatics, high-throughput synthesis) and process metrics (LCA and technoeconomic analysis) are included in this large project.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking to fill a vacancy of a Research Fellow or a Senior Research Fellow with experience in techno-economics and object-oriented programming. The candidate would have experience in assessing engineering reports and scientific papers on novel synthesis technologies, extracting key process performance parameters. The successful candidate would also have experience in designing and performing simple experimental work in the broad area of process and reaction engineering.

What skills do you have?

Working with chemical process simulators (e.g. Aspen Plus). Coding in Python or C++. Hands-on experimental experience in building and operating chemical reactors on laboratory scale.

When is position available and for how long?

The position is available from January 2025 for 1 year in the first instance and up to 4 years in total.

• Salary: $2,800 - $4,500 + Commission + AWS

Responsibilities:

• Management of Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) account of overseas customers and domestic customers.
• Generate New Sales & complete responsibility for all assigned NVOCC account for their requirements on all trade lanes and basic follow up calls.
• Active participation in the end-to-end sales process involving proposal/quotation/BAF notice/ Rate Negotiation / Closing spot Ad hoc rates
• Provide FCL & LCL Sea freight quotations to overseas customers and domestic customers.
• Generate Sales for the company under Freight Forwarding Division.
• Ensure timely rate updates and market tendency communication with all parties involved.
• Good regular customer account in hand to secure business .
• Collect market feedback and work closely with Pricing / Procurement Team
• Deal with liner on slot operators around Singapore .
• Offer solution to agent for shipment /space , all matters related to shipment .

Requirements:

• Must have in-depth knowledge about the Singapore & Far East market of freight forwarding industry.
• Candidate must have at least 5 years working experience in the field of Logistics & Freight Forwarding / Shipping Company
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• NVOCC is added advantage
