UWCSEA East is excited to announce an opportunity for a Middle School Head of Activities for the academic year 2025/2026.
This is a one-year post. Eligible candidates must hold a qualification to teach Physical Education (PE). The position is currently part-time with the possibility of increasing to full-time.
The Head of Middle School Activities is responsible for the design, delivery, and monitoring of the Middle School activities programme and related resources. This leadership role supports the wider UWCSEA holistic learning programme, diverse student learning needs and interests, and has clear pathways throughout Middle School activities. The post holder is responsible for planning and delivering a developmentally appropriate activities programme that supports young adolescent learning in a full range of activity categories. In addition, the Head of Middle School Activities will develop, coordinate and implement a community programme, which is accessible to all Middle School students.
The Head of MS Activities works closely with the High School and Junior School Heads of Activities, along with the Director of Activities and Community Engagement to design and implement the K-12 activity programme. Other key working relationships include the Middle School Leadership Team (MLT), the Service and Sustainable Development Team, Head of MS Service, Providers, Coaches, and HOGs. The Head of Middle School Activities reports to the Director of Activities and Community Engagement.

Main Responsibilities
- Enthusiastically lead the strategic planning of the Middle School activities programme and the MS Student Community Programme. Creating pathways and vision for the programme.
- Coordination of Middle School activities calendar, local ACSIS, invitational events, and overseas trips and competitions.
- Leading the development, mentoring, and monitoring of full time and external providers/coaches for
- Middle School activities and in the development of a Community Programme.
- Overseeing the Climbing, Swimming and Student Leadership programmes.
- Implementation and monitoring of child safeguarding and health and safety policies.
- Leading the implementation of budget monitoring systems for Middle School activities.
- Facilitating effective communication of Middle School activities, including leadership of the MiddleSchool Activities Council.
Expectations and Standards
Person Specifications
- A relevant degree in Physical Education or a closely related discipline and a recognized teaching qualification or certification are expected.
- Teacher leadership and/or coaching experience in the Middle School.
- The ability to engage with students and to engender enthusiasm for learning is a prerequisite for teaching at UWCSEA.
- Promotes UWCSEA’s values amongst students, staff, parents, and the wider Singapore community by embodying the UWCSEA mission.
- Builds and cultivates a collaborative and values aligned team of facilitators/providers/coaches across the Middle School. Encourages relationship building among staff and motivates diverse activities teams to work towards common departmental and campus goals.
- Develops strong partnerships with providers that are well aligned with the UWCSEA learning programme.
- Provides positive, transparent communication with staff regarding Middle School activities. This includes compassionate and constructive feedback to providers and coaches.
- Engages in highly effective communication that maximises both College and Middle School specific modes of communication.
- Develops action plans that optimises resources, including effective management of financial/material resources within the Middle School activities programme.
- Aligns the activities programme with the learner profile skills and qualities.
- Together with the Middle School Leadership Team, collaboratively works towards effective ways to report on student learning progress in activities.
- Incorporates the College safeguarding procedures and policies into coach and provider onboarding and continuous training.
- Responsible for the adherence of health and safety policies and procedures as related to Middle School activities. This includes actively monitoring accurate attendance records.
- Utilises student, staff, and parent feedback mechanisms to continuously improve the Middle School activities programme.
- Ensures that all Middle School students have access to and are participating in activities by analysing feedback and participation data.
- The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.
