10 years to 15 years
Responsibilities:
• You will be working with survey data, public datasets (e.g., census data), or experimental data.
• Responsible for cleaning data, handling missing values, filtering data, and dealing with outliers, which is essential in any research context.
• You may need to merge or join different datasets, and KNIME has nodes for combining data from multiple sources like Excel, CSV, databases, or APIs.
• Use KNIME compute basic descriptive statistics like means, medians, standard deviations, and percentiles.
• Visualize distributions, histograms, boxplots, and scatter plots to help you identify trends or anomalies in the data using Knime.
• You should correlation matrices or pair plots to examine the relationships between variables in your social research dataset.
• T-tests, ANOVA, Chi-square Tests For hypothesis testing, you can run statistical tests to compare groups or associations
• Use KNIME for linear regression, logistic regression, or multivariate analysis to study relationships between variables.
• Analyze complex survey data with many variables, factor analysis or PCA can reduce dimensionality and identify key underlying factors.
• Use KNIME for structural equation modeling (SEM), which is commonly used in social research for understanding relationships between observed and latent variables.
• Integrate geospatial data processing to visualize and analyze spatial patterns.
• Connect KNIME with GIS tools (like QGIS) to map trends and perform geospatial analysis.
• Using KNIME drag-and-drop interface for training and testing machine learning models.
• Leverage KNIME’s integration with tools like Tableau or Power BI for storytelling and sharing insights with stakeholders or a non-technical audience.
• Import survey data from CSV files or a database.
Key Skills Required:
• Building workflows using KNIME Analytics Platform
• Use KNIME Nodes For various tasks, such as data input/output, data cleaning, statistics, machine learning, etc.
• Integrates KNIME with Python and R for further analysis.
• Use KNIME’s reporting tools or integrate it with external tools for advanced reporting and dashboards.
• Additional Knowledge Areas:
• Survey Design & Sampling: Understanding how to design surveys, sample populations, and handle biases in data.
• Social Science Theories: Knowledge of theoretical frameworks that guide quantitative research in the social sciences, like social stratification, political behavior, or economics.
• Data Ethics & Privacy: Awareness of ethical considerations in social research, especially regarding sensitive data.
• Familiarity with scripting and data collection platforms WinCATI, Sensus and Forsta is must.
