Purpose
The Sales Engineer is responsible for driving revenue growth by leveraging technical expertise and sales acumen to promote and sell the company’s products and solutions. This role focuses on identifying customer needs, providing tailored technical solutions, and fostering strong customer relationships. The Sales Engineer acts as a bridge between the company’s technical capabilities and the customer’s requirements, ensuring customer satisfaction while achieving or exceeding sales targets. This position is open to candidates with a range of experience, from junior to senior levels, and may involve managerial responsibilities for more experienced candidates.
Job Duties:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Sales Strategy Execution: Implement and execute sales strategies to meet or exceed assigned revenue and profitability goals.
- Customer Acquisition: Proactively identify and pursue new customer accounts to expand the customer base.
- Sales Presentations & Negotiations: Conduct presentations to customers, negotiate sales contracts, and close deals effectively.
- Market Intelligence: Track market trends, competitor activities, pricing, and new product developments. Provide feedback to the Product Management team.
- Customer Enquiries & Proposals: Address customer inquiries promptly, prepare tailored proposals, and provide quotations.
- Relationship Management: Build, develop, and maintain strong business relationships with customers to ensure repeat business.
- Complaint Resolution: Work with the QA Team to resolve customer complaints and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Market Research & Analysis: Continuously monitor market developments and technological advancements to stay ahead of competition.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the Product Management team to generate RFQs, convert quotations into sales orders, and ensure smooth project execution.
- Sales Reporting: Prepare regular sales reports and track progress against sales targets.
- Team Management (if applicable): Oversee and guide Sales and Customer Service teams to ensure effective sales execution.
- Travel: Willingness to travel internationally for customer visits and business development.
- Industry Knowledge: Maintain awareness of the optics manufacturing industry, its technologies, and market trends.
Experience:
· Proven track record in technical sales with strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
· At least 2-5 years of relevant sales experience. Candidates with 5+ years of experience and demonstrated leadership/managerial skills may be considered for a managerial position.
· Experience in optics or engineering-related fields is a plus.
· Familiarity with market research and the ability to analyse customer needs and translate them into product solutions.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and communication.
· Ability to work independently and driven to meet sales targets.
· Experience in customer-facing roles and a customer-oriented mindset.
· Factory experience is advantageous.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Professional Degree/Diploma in Engineering or a related field is required. Candidates with a Master’s or PhD are welcome to apply.
- Experience in industry sales is preferred; experience in precision optics is an advantage.
- A background in engineering is preferred, particularly with knowledge of optics or related technologies.
Other Requirements:
· Fluency in Englishand Mandarin (spoken and written) to communicate with customers in Asia, Europe, and the USA.
· Willingness to work across multiple time zones (Asia, Europe, USA).
· Overseas travel is a must.
