The School of Humanities (SoH), Nanyang Technological University invites applications for Lecturer positions for a course titled “Inquiry and Communication in an Interdisciplinary World” in the Language and Communication Centre.

New Curriculum

NTU is transforming its education objectives towards more interdisciplinarity and collaborative learning for the foundation years of its undergraduate curriculum. A new interdisciplinary and collaborative curriculum was introduced in the academic year of 2021 to develop students’ cognitive agility, competence, and character, besides their disciplinary major. This new curriculum consists of a set of 7 core courses which will form part of the overall degree requirement in all NTU undergraduate programmes. The courses will be concentrated over the first two years of study comprising mixed classes of students from different disciplinary programmes, so that they can embrace multidisciplinary group learning as part of the overall academic expectation from the start of their university education. Students will collaborate in different teams for their course projects or assignments.

Content for the 7 common core courses is developed by a diverse mix of faculty and integrated to understand issues from various perspectives. Aligned with the learning outcomes of the desired attributes of an NTU graduate, the courses are curated to focus on key transferable skills and the global challenges of the modern world. The courses will adopt the flipped classroom and collaborative learning pedagogy, with content made available prior to classes, to facilitate collaborative discussion through group-based activities during class time.

The Language and Communication Centre in the School of Humanities offers communication courses to undergraduate and graduate students across the university, particularly in the disciplines of engineering, the humanities, sciences, and social sciences.

Requirements

The School of Humanities seeks to fill 1 Lecturer position in the Language and Communication Centre. Instructors are sought for a course titled “Inquiry and Communication in an Interdisciplinary World,” one of the core courses in its new Interdisciplinary Collaborative Curriculum (ICC) for all NTU undergraduates. This foundational course will develop students’ written and oral communication skills, as well as their ability to read and analyse texts.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach academic writing and communication skills, and to conduct research.

Job Description

• Conduct relevant English Language classes.
• Plan and develop the schedule of work.

Selected candidates will have support and subsidy in our in-house Rehab Pilates education and certification. Requirements

- You are expected to be certified with Mat and Equipment certifications within 12 months. You must be able to dedicate at least 5 hours per day over 5 days at the studio to Pilates practice in the goals to fulfil minimum of 450 hours to sit for the Pilates Teacher Training examination.

- You must be willing to work with the studio exclusively after you get certified. (Part-time is also considered in case-by-case basis, such as housewives, retirees. But full-time candidates are preferred)

- Complete beginners are welcome but you must have carefully thought about changing your career and is fully committed to become an amazing Rehab Pilates instructor.
