UWCSEA has a vacancy for August 2025 at its Dover Campus for a new position: K-12 Head of English as an Additional Language (EAL). The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of a coherent campus-wide direction for EAL as part of the student support team in line with College strategy.

The K-12 Head of EAL will also hold responsibility for leading and teaching EAL in High School (grades 9-12). Our High School EAL programme consists of dedicated EAL classes that incorporate studies in English language and some literature. In grades 9-10 we offer two courses in EAL and English for academic purposes), and prepare students for enrolment in either English B or English A in the IB Diploma from Grade 11. In Grades 11-12 our EAL learners follow the IB Diploma English B course, at Higher level.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead the EAL team on Dover campus with special responsibility for the High School team

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Ø Ensure Champs safety in all areas and activities. Eg: Champs are to be supervised at all times.

Ø Ensure all Champs hygiene at all times. Eg: Proper hand washing and food handling habits.

Ø Ensures classroom adheres to safety and hygiene regulations. Eg: Hygiene items are accessible, classroom is free from hazards.

Ø Report any damage/safety hazards in classroom to VP / P.

Ø To ensure cleanliness in all parts of the centre

Ø To lead class during any fire evacuation exercise and ensure that all Champs are accounted for.

Ø Menu is displayed.

Ø Food allergies of individual child are displayed prominently.

Ø Staff are patient with messiness slow eater are given time to finish food, children are encouraged to eat independently.

Ø Staff and children observe good hygiene practices.

Ø Proper hands washing with soap after toileting, before/after meals and

Ø after outdoor and art activities.

Ø Proper sanitary procedures are observed during diaper changing.

Ø Staff wash their hands before/after diaper changing.

Ø Soiled diapers are properly disposed in a covered bin.

Ø Children are supervised at all times.

Ø Children are within sight, hearing and easy reach of staff Eg: Staff quickly get materials from cupboard in room)

Ø Staff’s attention is on care giving responsibilities, not on other tasks or interests.

Ø There are proper storage facilities for play equipment; more than 2 staffs are present during outdoor play.

Ø Safety gates are latched at all times.

Ø Ensure that administration of medicine forms are updated and filled.

Ø Children suffering from infections/ communicable diseases return to centre upon expiry of medical certification and are well (No symptoms of the illness).

Ø Children’s personal effects such as toothbrushes and mugs, mattress covers and combs are labelled and well maintained.

Ø Contact information of parents / guardians and medical information of children are up-to-date and readily available.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

• Teach speech and drama and maths classes
• Guide and supervise assistant teachers in the classrooms
• Complete portfolio reports and teacher's evaluation for each child every semester

Requirements: -
