We are seeking an experienced and innovative educator to lead the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS), AP Environmental Science, and Biology. The Programme Director will oversee curriculum development, teacher mentoring, student outcomes, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This role is ideal for a leader passionate about fostering academic excellence, integrating cognitive science, and championing STEM education. The ideal candidate will foster critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and a passion for the natural sciences. The Programme Director will ensure alignment with IB and AP standards, integrating innovative teaching strategies that inspire students and promote academic excellence. This role will need to have the experience as IB examiner, department leader, published trainer to deliver exceptional instruction and contribute to the development of the school’s science programs, someone with knowledge of psychology will be an added advantage to this role.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Collaboration
- Contribute as a Science Professional Learning Community Leader, promoting best practices, curriculum alignment, and team development.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration by integrating environmental studies into broader curricular initiatives, leveraging on background in Biology, Environmental sciences and Psychology Policy.
- Mentor fellow educators and students, emphasizing excellence in science education and student achievement.
- Lead and manage faculty teams, fostering a culture of high expectations and continuous professional development.
- Monitor programme performance and implement data-driven strategies to enhance student outcomes.
Instruction and Curriculum Delivery
- Deliver high-quality instruction in IBDP Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS), IBDP Biology, AP Environmental Science, and related science courses.
- Design and implement engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on experiments, field studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to learning.
- Prepare students for success in IBDP and AP assessments, focusing on critical thinking, research methodologies, and global environmental perspectives.
- Use the expertise as an IBDP examiner to provide targeted feedback and guidance on Internal Assessments (IAs) and Extended Essays.
- Incorporate technology and modern teaching methodologies to enhance classroom engagement.
- Trained in IBDP Psychology to provide guidance and support to students as and when needed.
Faculty Development
- Mentor educators through performance appraisals, professional learning workshops, and collaborative planning sessions.
- Deliver professional development on cognitive science applications, student engagement strategies, and STEM education best practices
Assessment and Student Support
- Guide students in meeting high academic standards through formative and summative assessments aligned with IB and AP expectations.
- Provide individualized support to help students achieve their academic and career goals.
- Use data-driven insights to evaluate and improve teaching strategies, ensuring continuous improvement in student outcomes.
Extra-Curricular and Community Engagement
- Lead science-related extracurricular activities such as study trips, eco-clubs, or science fairs and science camps to inspire a passion for the natural sciences.
- Collaborate with colleagues on school-wide initiatives, including sustainability and environmental advocacy programs.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in teaching science to middle school students.
- Strong content knowledge in biology, chemistry, and physics.
- Patience and the ability to communicate complex concepts in an understandable way.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for helping students succeed.
- Master in Science (Biology, Environment sciences) is a must
- Master in Educational Leadership is a must
- Must be a qualified teacher accredited in UK, USA
- Advanced IB training: Category 2 and above in IBDP Biology, IBDP Psychology and MYP Science.
- Experienced in Environmental sciences, psychology Policy will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Over 25 years of international teaching experience across renowned international schools in (eg. south-east asia, UK, US)
- Extensive expertise in IBDP Biology, ESS, AP Biology, IGCSE, and IB MYP Science, with leadership roles as Head of Science Department and Grade Level Leader.
Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional knowledge of IBDP and AP standards, assessment criteria, and inquiry-based learning methodologies.
- Proven ability to lead teams, foster collaboration, and create innovative learning experiences.
- Strong organizational and project management skills demonstrated in department leadership and trip organization.
- Expertise in integrating sports and co-curricular activities into the academic framework.
