DEPARTMENT:
The counterparty onboarding team sit within the global COO team which oversees the trading operations of Brevan Howard. The counterparty onboarding team act as a central liaison point between various internal departments including legal, tax, risk, and compliance as well as the firm’s external counterparties. They facilitate the various trading relationships of Brevan Howard’s many funds to allow each fund to deploy its trading strategy effectively.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OFTHE ROLE:
The counterparty team are seeking a proactive individual to join the team in Asia to focus on APAC-specific projects. The role involves engaging with senior stakeholders to implement and manage the priorities of the business, from a counterparty onboarding perspective, alongside driving progress in day-to-day tasks.
The selected individual will need to be adaptable with an eagerness to learn, as well as have a strong voice, to be at the forefront of idea generation and implementation as business needs evolve. Candidates should possess unwavering attention to detail, a high level of numeracy and literacy with the ability to remain calm and confident under pressure. Candidates need to have strong time and task management skills with the ability to react swiftly to the fast and ever changing environment the business operates within.
Candidates should have a strong interest in the area, with an understanding of how the industry operates. The counterparty onboarding role involves daily interaction with external financial institutions, acting as a first point of contact and representative for Brevan Howard, they therefore will need to have excellent communication, negotiation and problem solving skills. Candidates should feel comfortable managing multiple lines of communication, working with multiple counterparties concurrently under time pressure to set up accounts and trading facilities. Serving as a visible, approachable and accountable contact point within the business for counterparty onboarding is central to this role.
This role will develop as the needs of the business. As such, we expect the candidate to be flexible and open to change, with the current responsibilities envisaged as below:
Onboarding
- Assisting in the day to day life cycle of counterparty on boarding across multiple asset classes
- Logging and auctioning new counterparty requests from traders
- Tracking and monitoring new counterparties / new products for existing counterparties via workflow software – includes categorizing of requests and knowing where to push them to - chasing accordingly
- Sending out on boarding requirements – high level reviewing and passing these on the relevant departments
- Liaising with internally risk / compliance / legal and Middle office teams to get the counterparts in place (includes; chasers, reviews, risk and compliance approvals)
- Liaising externally with Front/ middle /back office functions
- Monitoring inbound communications to the counterparties team – answering BAU queries and liaising with relevant department where appropriate
- Updating traders on progress of requests
- Chasing counterparts and liaising with Counterparties on requirements
- Participating in catch-up meeting to review all on-going enquiries
- Operating compliance and middleware platforms
KYC
- Being a first point of contact for KYC enquires
- Sharing constitutional / financial documents with counterparts where appropriate
- Answering counterparty questionnaires and queries
- Liaising with internal departments to escalate more complex queries
- Discussion, and in certain cases, sharing information on higher organizational information
- Getting docs executed by relevant persons
- Updating IHS Markit – including adding counterparts to view adherences
WORK EXPERIENCE/BACKGROUND. BUSINESS SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Skills
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Proven history in problem solving
- Experience in task management / prioritization
- Strong MS Office skills, (Outlook, Excel)
- Prior experience IHS Markit, FIA Tech, Markit Wire a plus
- Working experience constructuing and running SQL queries a plus
- Working experience writing Python scripts a plus

Desirable
- 2:1 Bachelor’s Degree or international equivalent
- 3 years' relevant work experience. Experience in Investor Relations, Investment Banking, Sales & Trading or Investment Management roles is desirable.

- Working experience writing Python scripts
