Overview of The Department

Commercial Rating and Underwriting (CRU) sits within the Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) division and forms the institutional credit risk management function within American Express. The CRU team plays the critical role of assessing and managing the risk of institutional exposures across all business units with American Express, and in all regions globally. Credit exposures are primarily generated through corporate and small business card programs, via merchant service relationships where non-delivery risk exists, and among the securities portfolio held for firm-wide liquidity. CRU is led from Salt Lake City with regional teams in New York, London, Singapore, Sydney and India.

In addition to determining the internal credit rating which drives the probability of default of each exposure, CRU also calculates the loss given default of these obligors while underwriting card programs. As a bank holding company, American Express must comply with the highest global banking standards set by Basel and implemented by the bank's primary regulatory authority, the Federal Reserve.

Job responsibilities

• Analyst will be based in Singapore and will be responsible for rating and underwriting credit exposures for the Japan market. Fluency in Japanese is a must as you will be required to read Japanese financial statements and also liaise with Japanese stakeholders in spoken Japanese.
• Fundamental analysis incorporates a thorough review of business, financials, industry and country risks coupled with support from internal and external rating model outputs. Assessment includes understanding of the need for credit extension, profitability of the relationship and program structures.
• As an Analyst, you will have the opportunity to interact with various teams across the firm including front office sales, business unit risk partners, and credit administration to perform their critical role.
• As an Analyst, you will also be part of CRU Analytical and Operational Excellence team which is responsible for developing analytical frameworks, quality controls and colleague learning & development processes.

Desired Skills

• Experience as a credit analyst or underwriter dealing with commercial exposures ranging from small business to middle-market to large, multinationals.
• Thorugh understanding of fundamental financial analysis including the ability to review corporate financial statements to determine the ability of the obligor to honor its credit obligations.
• Comfort with GAAP/IFRS accounting standards, corporate valuation, and forecasting.
• Familiarity with quantitative credit models (such as Moody's, Riskcalc, CreditEdge, etc and knowledge of how to interpret the outputs, and when deviation from the model has appropriate rationale.
• Comfort with public agency ratings and supporting analysis.
• Understanding of current macroeconomic trends and how to provide recommendations to improve the PD estimation based on the business cycle.
• Experience preparing company-specific and industry-wide credit memorandums.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years experience rating and/or underwriting at a leading financial or rating agency.
• Bachelor's degree from a top tier university with high GPA and a degree (or substantial coursework) in finance, accounting, economics, or statistics.
• Chartered Financial Analyst program candidacy a plus.
• Proficiency with MS excel, VBA a plus.

The Wealth Control Analyst is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. The Wealth Control team fosters a culture of control and customer centricity and accountability by leading efforts to identify, anticipate and mitigate regulatory, reputational, and operational risks. • Develop and iteratively optimize the firm’s funding liability strategy, considering cost, channel diversification, maturity concentration, and impact to key liquidity and capital metrics, with a focus on APAC entities

· The role plays a key role in making information available on-demand to support commercial decisions and new business initiatives. It works closely with the Finance Business Partners and other stakeholders around the group to determine data requirements and is responsible for managing the systems and processes to capture and deliver them as efficiently and accurately as possible.

· Supports coordination and collection of performance information from all relevant sources and delivering Monthly Financial Statements and other regular information as required by the Marketing Business, Production Business Units or Group Finance.

· Manages information through relevant systems, ensuring that data interfaces lead to traceable, reconcilable and well-supported financial information.

· Works with the Business Partnering and Corporate teams to design and implement the technical accounting logic to align data streams with business activities from performance and financial reporting perspectives.

Technology transformation

· Working closely with Information Management (IM), the role looks to implement technologies that improve control, increase information available for the business and automate transactional activity as much as possible, freeing up the team to add value elsewhere. It needs to think differently about the work Finance does and how it gets done, including the elimination of manual journals and recons as a cost to quality.

· As we implement new systems, the role needs to establish appropriate processes for defining user needs and managing UAT for the Finance department, ensuring that accounting logic and financial controls are appropriately captured.

Continuous improvement

· Create ways to measure and manage how well we perform as a team. Amongst the team, this role creates a culture that actively looks to improve workflows and processes, minimizing control weaknesses while increasing speed and accuracy.

· Optimise links between SAP, Aspect, HFM, Blackline and other systems to ensure information is available as and when required.

· Design and improve processes around the systems to streamline efforts required to input and extract data.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for

· Undergraduate degree in Accountancy or business-related subject.

· Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills

· Familiar with financial accounting systems such as SAP/Blackline/Hyperion will be a plus

· Hands on experience in performing financial reporting and month end closing activities in an MNC setting

· Prior knowledge working in commodity industry will be a plus

· Familiar with using trading systems (Aspect) will be highly regarded

· Good interpersonal skills and strong team player

· Possess strong financial and analytical skills and attention to detail

· Ability to deal with some ambiguity in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment and willingness to challenge status quo and explore new ways of working

· Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma would be advantageous.

Role purpose

To perform actuarial, financial modelling and catastrophe risk analyses to support Miller Singapore in winning, placing and monitoring complex insurance and reinsurance risks in Asia markets.

Role deliverables

• Model the probability distributions of the gross / ceded / net underwriting results of an (re)insurance client.

• Utilise cost / benefit analysis to advice brokers and clients “optimal” reinsurance programs based on risk tolerance levels.

• Model and analyse natural catastrophe exposure for various business streams, when requested, to support Miller’s offering to its clients

• Carry out investigations of the appropriateness and sensitivity of modelling assumptions, maintaining Miller’s commercial position where this does not conflict with relevant professional standards

• Maintain robust documentation, data cleansing, data manipulation and peer review practices to ensure accuracy and relevance of model outputs and assumptions, clearly explaining any limitations of outputs

• Communicate modelling process and results with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and through formal reports/presentations, to a very high standard

• Work with the team to build trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders

• Ensure high standards of accuracy in work and manage competing priorities to deliver work in a timely fashion

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science / Mathematics / Statistics / or Computer Science

- FCAS, FIAA, FIA or working towards qualification

- Minimum 5 years general insurance experience, reinsurance preferred.

- Good Excel skills

- Strong oral and written communication skills for a variety of audiences

- Experience with programming languages to automate modelling processes

- Past experiences at a broker or non-broking background (e.g., (re)insurance company) across multiple lines of business

- Able to make assumptions when faced with missing or unreliable data

Overview and Purpose of the Position

Main Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Reporting Officer in the approval, acquisition, and implementation of IT projects.
• Resolve project-related issues by working with vendors and key stakeholders to ensure successful IT project delivery.
• Oversee planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating vendor and department operations, including assigning tasks, evaluating work processes, and preparing correspondence such as reports.
• Work with stakeholders to prioritize, design, develop, and implement IT application features and enhancements, ensuring alignment between system capabilities and business requirements.
• Ensure optimal performance of business-as-usual and in-scope IT systems, meeting SLAs and user stakeholder requirements.

Qualifications and Area of Discipline

• Bachelor’s Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical fields.
• Degree or diploma holders in Radiography or Medical Laboratory Science with an interest in IT are also welcome to apply.
