RtMI Coal Division and FRM Division (“DIVISION”) has the headquarter function of Coal and FRM’s global trading business in Mitsubishi Corporation (“MC Headquarters”) with sitting along with global head of DIVISION.
DIVISION operates global-basis business by leveraging the regional offices based in Japan, China, America, Europe, India and other regions. DIVISION also tries to expand its business by providing various value-added scheme (in logistic, derivative etc.) to global counterparties, which contains complicated business scheme with various risk factors.
Under this global basis business model, it is important to equip DIVISION with the robust framework / structure of risk management. Middle office is responsible to establish such foundation under DIVISION by supporting global head, and to monitor various risk factors and PL under its trading portfolio, through communicating with various stakeholders such as traders in DIVISION, colleagues in corporate division in RtMI, employees in regional offices and MC Headquarters. To fulfill this responsibility of Middle Office, Senior Manager is expected to play an essential role to manage communications with relevant stakeholders written above and his/her subordinates in Middle Office, and to enhance DIVISON’s own risk management capability by introducing the best structure of DIVISION.
Additionally, this position will be involved as one of the key members in discussions on further strengthening RtMI’s Middle Office’s function, to be the 1.5 line of defense to ensure financial accuracy, integrity, compliance of trading activities, allowing for effective monitoring, and to lead the execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. DIVISION's P&L and risk position report under global trading book (20%)
- To check the draft of daily P/L & Risk Position report prepared by subordinates in Mid Office (ultimate responsibility is under Employee), and support book owners, global head in DIVISION and RtMI’s management to make decision on trading activity, based on the said report.
- To answer detailed questions from RtM S&P / Market Risk team and MC Headquarters’ administrative Dept. (in Japanese language) in relation to abovementioned report.
2. DIVISION's risk management framework (20%)
- To establish suitable & global structure / framework / organization to enhance DIVISION’s ability to manage the risk appropriately, by obtaining the endorsement of global head and other relevant internal stakeholders.
3. DIVISION's business process management (20%)
- To manage / improve the daily business operation and be checker in particular key process, in order to ensure that traders’ daily activity is fully compliant with the internal / external requirement / regulation.
- To work closely with Corporate Governance Office in RtMI to maintain DIVISION’s Internal Control framework appropriately, which is required to be aligned with MC Headquarters’ standard in Internal Control framework, through close communication with relevant division in MC Headquarters in Japanese language.
4. Management and Internal coordination of applications/trade limits (20%)
- To assist the coordination of several types of limits and applications such as Credit Line, Parental Guarantee Requirement, Trading Risk Limit which are applied from DIVISON to RtMI EXECO / MC Headquarters both in English and Japanese.
- To be responsible that DIVISION operates within approved limits / applications, by obtaining the support from subordinates.
5. DIVISION's strategy & planning (10%)
- To assist the set-up of the KPI / commodity strategy and follow-up the progress, particularly for the risk management related item(s) both in English and Japanese.
6. Middle office's functional development (10%)
- To be involved in discussions on further strengthening Middle Office’s function, to be the 1.5 line of defense to ensure financial accuracy, integrity, compliance of trading activities, allowing for effective monitoring and lead the execution.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Degree from a recognized University.
- At least 10 years’ relevant experience in the mineral resources industry (Preferable if he/she has the experience in Coal (Thermal Coal and/or Metallurgical Coal) and/or Iron Ore industry)
- Experience in managing team with subordinates, which enables he/she to consider well-balanced task allocation for subordinates across various commodities, set Middle Office’s appropriate KPI, objective and plan Middle Office’s activity, which needs to be in line with DIVISION’s KPI/Strategy
- Able to provide logical analysis on data such as P&L, risk position
- Proficient in Japanese language to communicate with MC Headquarters, prepare the report and explanation material in Japanese to be used in MC Headquarters as well as to work closely with stakeholders in MC Headquarters to align DIVISION’s operation with various requirement from them.
