• Create and build a vibrant marketplace by bringing together volunteers and partners from different organisations to network, share experiences and best practices and exchange ideas and bond with one another. This diversity allows NHG to have fresh perspectives for better decision making, risk management and a more robust corporate governance.
• Build communities of activated and health literate volunteers with shared interests. Ideas garnered from learning platforms could go towards research or to improve the framework in developing and sustaining a community of Patient Education Ambassadors.
• Identify and leverage potential funding programmes and partners as seed funding for implementation of pilot health literacy programmes under the auspice of CHI and CHA.
• Identify appropriate research tools, partners and methodologies such as the adoption of validated tools and digital platforms, which enables the patients to assess their personal activation levels and equip them with the resources, knowledge and support to increase activation levels through experiential learning.
• Lead large scale community events and festivals within set budgets, standard operating protocols, funding mechanisms and pre-defined timelines.

The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:

• Degree in business, communications, social sciences, behavioral science, psychology, social anthropology or a related field will be an advantage
• At least five or more years of community engagement and/or research, preferably in the healthcare and/or social service sector.

Job Description

The Singapore Population Health Studies (SPHS) is a population-based health research initiative at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. SPHS aims to investigate the interactions between lifestyle, physiological, genetic and other omics biomarkers and their impact on health and longevity. In addition, SPHS will serve as a platform to monitor risk factors in the population and gain insight into determinants of health-related behaviours. For this purpose, SPHS includes over 50,000 adult Singaporeans and long-term residents from three major ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay, and Indian), for a better understanding of disease aetiology in urban Asian settings, and the development of improved preventive and therapeutic measures for Singapore and other Asian populations.

JOB PURPOSE
This role primarily involves the recruitment and data collection activities of the research projects under the SPHS unit that will contribute towards the building of a population health research biobank for Singapore.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Take consent from research participants before performing any research procedures
2. Perform basic assessments that include measurements of blood pressure and visual acuity, fundus photography etc. and enter data into the correct electronic form via a tablet. Keep to a turnaround time of 8-10min per participant.
3. Perform spirometry and keep to a turnaround time of 10-15min per participant.
4. Minimise the waiting of participants by directing them to next most available test station.
5. Encourage participants to perform procedures to meet the required standards to ensure that the data output is good to use for research.
6. Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
7. Account for the inventory levels of consumables.
8. Conduct/undergo in periodic re-assessment of techniques to maintain consistency of image and data acquisition for standardisation

Qualifications

1. A background in biomedical science, optometry or nursing is preferred
