RESPONSIBILITIES
The Staff Nurse plays a central role in providing nursing care to residents in the nursing home. The SN will be responsible for supervision, training and development of subordinates and actively participate in quality improvement efforts. Other duties include preparation and assisting in clinical tasks, documentation, records co-ordination and updates on changes in residents' conditions and needs.
- Utilise clinical judgement, critical thinking and evidence based care (research based) in the delivery of resident care
- Provide clinical guidance and direction to junior nurses and care staff
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated and holistic care
- Coordinate continuity of care throughout hospitalisation and transition to home or the community
- Act as a liaison between residents, caregivers and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals and communicate effectively on the care plan and discharge planning
- Establish and maintain effective communication with all other health professionals, support staff, families and care providers
- Perform clinical procedures as specified in SNB's generic skill list for RNs
- Participate in clinical quality improvement
- Perform resident and caregiver training
- Lead care team in emergency situations. Where necessary, take appropriate nursing actions to mitigate the emergency and escalate to acute care setting
- Contribute In-service Education program
- Precept new SN and student nurses and supervise their learning on provision of holistic care
- Assist Nurse Managers with inventories and management of supplies, equipment and furniture
- Perform any other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma / Degree in Nursing or equivalent
- Valid Practising Certificate issued by the SNB
- Valid BCLS + AED certification
- Preferably Registered Nurse with two- three years in Nursing home / Geriatric ward
