Project Overview

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate, to systematically organize knowledge for a project on “Designing human-AI teams.” The project is part of a five-year research program on "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)."

Successful applicants for this position will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary project that aims to dramatically rethink how people and AI systems will work together in the future. To do this, the project seeks to build a strong scientific foundation for how AI can augment (as opposed to replace) humans.

An important goal of the project is to develop a rich ontology of activities that can be performed by human-AI teams. Like categorizing the plants and animals on a little-explored continent, the work will involve cataloging many (a) activities and (b) possible human-computer processes for performing these activities.

To do this, we will develop knowledge graphs that include (1) descriptions of many different types of activities and processes, and (2) classifications of these descriptions into multi-dimensional taxonomies that range from very general types of activities to very specific ones.

These knowledge graphs will then be used to automatically generate promising ways of combining humans and AI systems to perform different tasks. In the long run, we believe these tools will help rapidly (a) identify use cases for new AI capabilities, (b) specify effective processes and task allocations to humans and computers in a given situation, and (c) identify innovative ways to combine people and AI to solve business and societal problems.

The T6 team is led by distinguished scholars, including Profs. Thomas Malone, Charles Fine, Armando Solar-Lezama, Jinhua Zhao, and Abdullah Almaatouq from MIT; Prof. Marcelo Ang from the National University of Singapore; and will be assisted by Prof. Archan Misra from Singapore Management University.

Qualifications

The Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore invites applications for up to two Tenure track (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor) position in urban planning and design. Successful candidates should be actively engaged with urban issues in Asia. They should have interests in developing interdisciplinary research to address pressing challenges to high-density urban environment, especially in Asia. Within Asia Operations, the Securities team is responsible for processing and managing the risk relating to securities & derivatives settlements, securities transfers, corporate action (income, cash) and asset creation and maintenance.

The incumbent will be part of this exciting function and is responsible for:

· The processing and controls of the processes within the Securities function.

· Ensuring efficiency and productivity in delivery quality services to Azqore’s clients.

Working closely with his/her colleagues to provide clients with technical expertise and solutions, in a comprehensive, timely and accurate manner.

Job Responsibilities:

Daily BAU

· Successful applicant will be assigned to functions within the Asia Securities Operations team, including asset data management, settlements & derivatives and/or transfers. Understanding of the core system and process workflow are essential.

· There is an expectation that he/she understands the relevant market markets and demonstrate front-to-back knowledge of the process(es) he/she is handling.

· Proactively manages and resolves discrepancies, relating to the functions he/she is responsible for, with internal and external stakeholders, both locally and abroad

Others

· Participates to Azqore Asia Operations projects, proactively drives and implements process enhancement and improvements, where necessary

Job Requirements:

· Bachelor degree, and / or professional qualification in Banking / Finance

· 3-5 years of relevant experience in Settlements, Derivatives and/or Asset Transfer processes. Experience in Private Banking is a plus.

· Familiar with financial products as well as the market infrastructures, regulations and operational risks.

· Knowledgeable about SWIFT messages types.

· Good knowledge and practice of Office suite. Excel VBA macro knowledge is a plus.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

· Ability to collaborate, especially cross border

Energy Studies Institute

The Energy Studies Institute (ESI) is a research institute at the National University of Singapore seeking to advance the understanding of energy policy issues by conducting independent research and analysis. We are looking for researchers to join a multi-disciplinary team carrying out research projects on a range of energy issues that are of concern to Singapore and the region.

The Institute is looking to recruit a researcher with expertise in energy economics and policy at the rank of Research Associate. The appointed staff will operate under the responsibility of the Institute Head and work closely with all members across each of the institute’s divisions.

Candidates are expected to be highly familiar with:

1. climate change and decarbonisation issues; and
2. quantitative or qualitative analysis methods.

An understanding of Singapore's economic system and local work experience is desirable.

Job Description

The specific area of work will depend on the priorities of the institute at any given point in time. In the near term, to support ongoing and expanding future research within the institute, the appointed candidate will be expected to commit to analysing various energy transition and carbon mitigation policies. Examples of priority areas include:

• Comparative evaluation of renewable energy deployment policies and potential;
• Economic and geopolitical analysis of energy supply chain and energy supply security;
• Assessment of carbon pricing and carbon markets.

Job Requirements

• Possess a Master's degree in economics, public policy, international relations, political science, law or other related fields, with specific application to energy, environmental or climate issues, or possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Applicants should have demonstrated experience in quantitative and/or qualitative policy analysis and are expected to have an adequate understanding of various econometric methodologies. Expected skillsets include one of the following:Econometric methods for causal inference;
  Data science and machine learning;
  Survey design and analysis;
  Qualitative analysis skills specialized in policy and geopolitics
• A good contemporary understanding and interest in energy technologies and issues. Expected areas could include but are not limited to:Biofuels;
  Nuclear energy;
  Geothermal;
  Energy storage
• Relevant working and practical experience in industry or government agencies in the area of energy and environment would be valuable.
• Track record of publications in reputable journals would be an advantage.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Have a strong written and oral command of the English language.
