The Experimental Marine Ecology Laboratory (EMEL) within the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work on a major new project “Maximizing the beneficial environmental effects of tropical hybrid shorelines (MaxBETH)”. This interdisciplinary research aims to determine how hybrid coastal protection systems can be implemented at large scales in Singapore as well as assessing the challenges and benefits of up-scaling and identifying the effects of hybrid shorelines on biophysical processes.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

• Carry out geochemical surveys
• Conduct field and lab work to measure carbon flux
• Assist in administrative work to support the project
• Coordinate with sister projects
• Prepare research manuscripts, reports, and presentations

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s and/or Masters degree in Earth Sciences, Geochemistry Marine Biology, Ecology, Geography, Environmental Studies, or other similar discipline. The candidates should have a strong passion for marine environment-related research. Research skills include geochemical survey techniques and analysis, sampling designs and lab protocols to measure carbon flux, statistical analysis, writing abilities, as well as the capacity to work within a diverse group of scientists, are desirable. Candidates with previous first-authored ecological publications will be given priority.

This is a one-year contractual position offered in connection to CIL's expansion of its programme on international economic law and policy. The objective of the position is to develop the research capabilities and knowledge of junior scholars by immersing them in a dynamic and supportive research environment where they can enhance their understanding of different areas of international economic law and policy.

The duties of the incumbent will involve:

• Assisting the Head of the International Economic Law and Policy programme in research in connection with the programme’s ongoing projects in international economic law, including CIL’s position as an official observer in UNCITRAL Working Group III, CIL’s ongoing work on international economic law and climate change, and its work on the evolution of the international architecture for economic regulation.
• Assisting with the development and organization of seminars and workshops organized by CIL, including the Singapore International Arbitration Academy.
• Conducting research and completing at least one publication for possible publication in a recognized journal at the termination of the position.

Job Description

The NUS Centre for International Law (CIL) is accepting applications for Research Associate for its Energy Law and Policy Programme (ELP). The ideal candidate would be interested in working on globally-oriented energy governance issues with a regional focus, particularly topical issues of a cross-cutting nature. • Provide timely market updates and accurate product information to clients and stakeholders
