In many industries, the primary role of the technician is to instal hardware and software. If you work in IT, your work can involve installing computer, networking and database system software and hardware. In factories, the technician can instal manufacturing equipment. As an HVAC technician, your job can entail installing air conditioners, thermostats and compressors. Technicians in electrical industries might instal cables, transformers, distribution boards and other power generation, transmission and distribution equipment. Besides installing equipment, technicians also configure them to ensure the infrastructure performs its functions properly.

Maintenance and repair

It's also the responsibility of the technician to maintain and repair the equipment they instal. This can involve preventive maintenance and servicing, replacement of faulty components or upgrading of hardware to improve performance and efficiency. They diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues to find out their causes, resolve the problems and prevent or limit future incidents.

Equipment operation

Technicians often operate equipment and infrastructure and ensure the installations perform their functions optimally. To do this, they may read manuals or even undergo specialised training. Technicians may also teach other people how to use the equipment. For example, when a company instals a new networking infrastructure and the users don't know how to use it to connect to the internet, a technician is usually the one who shows them how the equipment works. As a Technician, you provide technical support to new and existing car parks, and work with contractors to ensure the completion of works required. You also upkeep and perform preventive maintenance on parking equipment and maintain the required documentations for works done.

About the role

The L1 IT Support Engineer (IT ServiceDesk) is accountable for providing a high level of satisfaction among students and staff by providing first-level support for all GESS standard software and hardware. This position entails the diagnosis and assessment of end-users' technical requirements, utilizing sound discernment to promptly address and resolve any issues that may arise.

You will be part of a team responsible for the maintenance of material handling equipment, forklifts, tractors, equipment and various systems at Cargo Airfreight Terminals. You will perform trouble shooting functions and undertake basic repair work. Working jointly with our vendors, you will assist to ensure that operations are not disrupted due to breakdown of the equipment within the warehouse.

• Nitec in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with preferably 2 years working experience.

• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in warehouse equipment handling and maintenance

• Possess basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Able to work in challenging environments such as cold rooms, high humidity, wet conditions and steamy environment and also able to work at high ground

• Can work on rotating shifts or weekends, if required

Compensation:

• Locals with local NITEC: $2000 (min)

• Shift allowance on average $240 and OT.

• Staff transport will be provided for candidates working beyond midnight.

Responsibilities:

• Proper installation, testing and repair of all electrical and electronic wirings, appliances, equipment, fixtures and apparatus.
• Correctly using hand tools and test equipment to be able to determine the main cause of all electrical problems.
• Properly connect wires to transformers, circuit breakers and other electrical components.
• Inspecting electrical equipment, systems and components to be able to identify any defects, hazards, or a need for repair and adjustment.
• Providing the correct advise to the management of companies and homeowners regarding all electrical equipment being completely safe to use and ensuring that they are not hazardous.
• Planning out the correct layout and installation related to all electrical wirings, fixtures and equipment which is compliant to local codes.
• Proper use of a variety of tools and equipment such as measuring devices, testing equipment, power tools and construction equipment. This includes test lamps, oscilloscopes and ammeters.
• Maintaining an up to date electrician’s license or identification card which meets all government regulations.
• Performing replacements for electrical wirings and equipment which have been diagnosed as faulty. The most common examples of this are switches, relays and motors. They also set up sensing mechanisms and utilize the correct usage of hand tools and power tools.
• Carrying out the correct diagnosis of all electrical wirings and equipment which are malfunctioning. The most common example of this is printed circuit boards.
• Ensuring the proper replacement of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic components of electrical equipment and machines which have been diagnosed as faulty.
• Performing other electrical related tasks such as repairing time clocks, transforming coil winders, maintaining salvage repairs and functioning as an underground repairman.
• Effectively assisting and managing electrical duties related to a contractor’s roles.
• Effectively assisting the regulation and administration of duties and responsibilities related to junior technicians.
• Organizing and ensuring the use of safety maintenance principles and guidelines related to scheduling and regulating breakdowns.e in building or facilities maintenance

Job Responsibilities

• Carry out all maintenance work to ensure the smooth operation and effective management of the estate
• Conduct daily inspections and ensure defects are promptly reported and follow up with the necessary repairs
• Ensure that all assigned maintenance functions are carried out according to contractual requirement.
• Ensure compliance with divisional policies & ISO Procedures.
