Person Specifications

• Relevant degree, a recognised teaching qualification, and learning support teaching qualification are required.
• Considerable Middle/High School learning support experience is required with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by Middle/High School students.

Strategic Innovation role is to support GIS T-BD office to develop, manage and track each innovation project in GIS within the FoS funnel.

He/She is to take the lead to drive translation outcome using the FoS engine as a mechanism such as calling/scouting/fishing for new innovation ideas, developing innovation projects, and validating/supporting the projects leaders to achieve funding and eventual spin-off. He/She will also constantly innovate and improve the FoS engine by working closely with GIS management and I&E, hence allowing the GIS to establish good and successful spin-offs.

1. Calling/scouting/fishing for new innovation ideas within GIS. Discussing with PIs, GIS Tech Biz Research Partnership team, Post-docs, to identify new innovation ideas to develop into innovation projects.

a) Attend GIS scientific event (ie. GIS weekly) to scout potential innovation ideas with commercial value.

b) Attend GIS Tech Biz TD showcase/review to scout potential innovation ideas from the TDs.

2. Work with Innovation Project Leaders to qualify/validate problem statement.

3. Work with PIs/Innovation Project Leaders to provide commercial assessment/evaluation (ie. Market assessment, validation with industry players) to the Innovation Projects.

4. Track, manage and report out progress of each innovation project.

5. Main point of contact for GIS? FoS.

6. Manage and oversees the community of EIR (including Innovation Project Leaders, GIS Innovation Fellow, Aspired Entrepreneur and Spun-off Alumni).

Job requirements

1. Degree in Business Administration or equivalent, or Degree in scientific discipline related to GIS core businesses, e.g. Bioinformatic, or biomedical engineering, or biology, or chemistry, or equivalent.
2. Must possess an entrepreneurial spirit, must be innovative and drive to create, modify and build new frameworks to achieve objectives.
3. 3-5 years of industry experience in R&D, Business Development in medical devices and life sciences preferred or related industries.

The Role

The Assistant Head (Pastoral) as a full member of SSLT has a key role to play in both the strategic development of the Senior School and the day-to-day management of it. Reporting directly to the Head of Senior School, the Assistant Head (Pastoral) will actively promote and uphold the ethos and values of school.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for Safeguarding in the Senior School, working closely with the Heads of Middle, Upper and Sixth Form as well as supporting the Deputy Head (Pastoral) on developing and implementing strategies within the school in relation to the pastoral and wellbeing needs of the students. The Assistant Head (Pastoral) will demonstrate a clear understanding of and commitment to school priorities and the overall achievement and wellbeing of all students.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

• Develop and implement tools such as surveys and focus groups to assess student wellbeing, using insights to design and evaluate targeted support programmes in collaboration with staff, students and parents.
• Assist in developing a student rewards strategy under the direction of the Deputy Head (Pastoral). The strategy will integrate the core values of Respect, Responsibility and Purpose, aligning recognition practices with the school’s pastoral framework to foster a values-driven community.
• Work with the Deputy Head (Pastoral) to review and enhance attendance systems, embedding safeguarding and providing staff with tools to address attendance challenges effectively.
• Lead and chair regular meetings with the Assistant Heads of Year (AHOYs) in the Senior School to ensure that the AHOYs are consistent in embedding, leading and monitoring areas of the pastoral system for which they have oversight.
• Support the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and in many cases, lead in investigating behaviour incidents across the school, collaborating closely with the Heads of Middle, Upper and Sixth Form to ensure thorough and consistent processes are followed. Conduct relevant disciplinary meetings with parents and students under the guidance of the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and Head of Senior School.
• Conduct case load reviews and present to SSLT on efficacy, trends and patterns within behavioural and safeguarding caseload.
• Compile pastoral data for Governors’ meetings under the direction of the Deputy Head (Pastoral).

2. General

• Teach at a level to be agreed with the Head of Senior School.
• Participate in co-curriculum activities across the school at a level to be agreed with the Head of Senior School.
