Hotlotz, is Singapore’s fast-growing auction house, based in the heart of Southeast Asia. We will celebrate our 10 year anniversary in 2025.
We currently hold 40+ sales per year across diverse specialisms, connecting with a global clientele. We operate a hybrid ‘bricks and clicks’ business model, we combine a physical presence with an innovative digital platform to conduct online auctions only, covering diverse categories including Interiors & Collectibles, Jewellery & Watches, Designer & Luxury Fashion, and Asian Ceramics and Works of Art.
As a Senior Valuer, you will work within a dynamic team of international valuers led by Director of Auctions, Christopher Lanigan O’Keeffe.
This role demands an experienced valuer with a strong generalist background. You will be confident valuing a broad range of items across our key sectors. A strong interest in Asian Works of Art or Jewellery would be particularly desirable.
As well as relevant industry knowledge and experience, your enterprising approach and strong organisational skills will be matched by a desire to take Hotlotz to the next level and share in its future success.
Key Responsibilities
You will be a senior member of a growing team of valuers.
Your role will include planning and developing our sales calendar to meet our targets and milestones, participating in all valuation and catalogue development activities, managing and mentoring junior valuers, and taking responsibility for our catalogues being published as planned and in line with our standards.
You’ll deal directly with sellers, actively engaging in business development including identifying and pursuing strategic opportunities for profitable consignment. You should be comfortable with providing a high level of service to private sellers, many of whom have a high net worth and who are used to excellent customer service.
Further, you will support sales efforts, including viewings and other buyer enquiries (such as condition reports), as well as providing general assistance with pre and post-sales issues and supporting our finance, operations, marketing and technology teams.
Responsibilities
· Work with the Managing Director to define and execute our auction sale calendar to meet financial targets
· Work with the Managing Director to drive pipeline business to meet strategic, financial and sale curation objectives
· Develop and maintain business contacts and identify and pursue strategic opportunities to meet financial targets
· Appraise and assess items and enquiries to determine sale potential and value and convert them into items consigned for sale
· Manage preparation and execution of pitch strategies where required
· Ensure requests for appraisals and estimates are responded to and followed up on
· Manage overall consignment process with internal teams and consigners
· Be responsible for managing our cataloguing and approval systems and processes
· Ensure catalogue descriptions, terminology, images and information are accurate and complete (including having been proofed) and are signed off in accordance with our requirements including our house style
· Ensure photography of objects is completed in a timely manner including managing our photographers and internal teams handling items
· Supervise and review research and information, including relating to authenticity, bibliography, provenance, and exhibition history
· Ensure condition reports of consigned items are prepared and available to sales teams
· Facilitate requests for certifications and other documentation
· Ensure any export documents are obtained
· Supervise client sign off on all valuations, reserves and estimates in accordance with our processes and procedures
· Coordinate with our marketing team to produce materials and information for related press and marketing purposes
· Support physical viewings and enquiries from potential buyers (including providing condition reports) working with internal and sometimes external teams
· Participate and present, when needed, in seminars and marketing events, in public, for the benefit of the company
· Manage and promote positive behaviours and morale in accordance with the company’s values and policies
· Work with our finance team to support general finance issues (accounts receivable, etc)
· Work with our finance team to deliver accurate information to support financial reporting
· Work with our finance team to ensure that all AML/ CTF standard operating procedures are followed
· Any additional duties or special projects as assigned by the Managing Director
Skills
· An undergraduate degree is essential
· Minimum of 5 year’s work experience as a senior valuer in an international or strong regional auction house
· Appraising and valuing expertise across a wide range of antiques, art and collectables
· An interest in or experience of valuing Asian Ceramics and Works of Art or Jewellery would be beneficial
· The ability to mentor junior valuers and build strong working relationships with individuals and teams
· Excellent organisational skills including the ability to be proactive as well as the ability to multi-task. High level of attention to detail
· Commercial and strategic mindset including the ability to be innovative and enterprising
· Strong understanding of corporate finance and measures of performance
· Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal and presentation skills including the ability to negotiate
· Experience in or willingness to do public speaking
· Ability to work collaboratively across multiple groups and people from different backgrounds, cultures, and locations
· Willingness to work at multiple locations within Singapore, including our saleroom, visiting consigner premises and elsewhere
· Ambition with a desire for professional opportunity, personal adventure, and hard work
· Enthusiasm and willingness to broaden knowledge and learn
· Flexibility to work overtime and weekend hours when necessary
· Strong IT system expertise and aptitude, including MS Office and Apple OS
