The job scheduler designs, implements, and optimises batch job schedules across multiple platforms, ensuring timely execution and system integrity. They collaborate with stakeholders, maintain documentation, and drive continuous improvement in scheduling processes.
Responsibilities:
1. Job Management and Execution
· Design, implement, and maintain job schedules across multiple platforms
· Ensure accurate job conditions and rules in the Job Scheduling Software
· Generate and manage daily plans
· Monitor job runs, troubleshoot failures, and take corrective actions
· Verify input/output availability and dispatch outputs timely
· Analyse and optimise job performance
2. Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication
· Coordinate with internal stakeholders and application teams
· Work with over 200 application system support officers
· Resolve conflicts and address competing priorities
· Build trust through meeting deadlines and managing dependencies
· Educate support officers and end-users on job scheduling best practices
3. System Integration and Risk Management
· Identify conditions requiring manual intervention
· Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing
· Highlight potential impacts of new systems on existing ones
· Manage high-pressure situations and frequent changes
· Balance service delivery with adherence to standards and procedures
4. Documentation and Compliance
· Maintain thorough documentation of schedules, configurations, and changes
· Support audits and compliance requirements
Requirements:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in designing, scheduling and automation using IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS) for z/OS, and distributed platforms such as Linux, Unix, Windows. Must be familiar in using ISPF, IWS and SDSF and with hands on operations experience with mainframe operating systems z/OS, TSO and Console commands
- Expertise in configuring and managing complex job dependencies across multiple systems and environments
- Proven experience in creating, updating, and optimising scheduling plans in IBM Workload Scheduler to meet changing business needs and improve operational efficiency
- Proven experience in leveraging IWS tools and scripting to automate repetitive tasks and enhance scheduling efficiency
- Experience in generating, analysing, and leveraging forecast plans in IBM Workload Scheduler to optimise resource utilisation, ensure SLA compliance, and support capacity planning initiatives
- Proficiency in generating, analysing, and leveraging various IWS reports for performance monitoring, compliance, trend analysis, and continuous improvement of the scheduling environment
