Role: Welding Inspector
Position Overview:
The welding Inspector ensures that welding work complies with established safety and quality standards. This role involves inspecting materials, welds, witness NDT, reviewing welding procedure specifications (WPS), and maintaining compliance with applicable international codes/standards, Singapore standards, project specifications, and client requirements. The Welding Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, integrity and safety of welded components, contributing to the success of fabrication, installation and completion for construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform visual inspections as per approved ITPs.
1) Visual inspections to raw materials, semi-products related to welding activities as per approved engineering drawings, verify associated mill certificates.
2) Before welding begins, visual inspections to fit-up, verify WPSs, welding consumables and base metals to be used for welding are proper.
3) Visual inspections to welds on structure and piping components, ensure welding quality complies with applicable WPSs, welding standards and project specifications.
4) Witness non-destructive testing (NDT) to welds on structure and piping components.
5) Verify weld dimensions, alignment, distortions, and joint configurations against drawings.
6) Witness welder qualification tests and WPS qualification test.
2. Compliance Monitoring:
1) In-process welding monitoring, ensure welding activities/parameters meet applicable WPSs.
2) In-process monitor and random check welder qualification and ensure certification validity and adherence to approved welding procedures.
3) Randomly check welding process is recorded properly, ready for check at any time. Ensure subcontractor maintain accurate welding record.
4) Monitor/randomly check to verify material traceability requirements in applicable procedures are met.
5) Issue site observations records to subcontractors if any deviations are found in monitoring.
3. Documentation and Reporting:
1) Ensure daily RFIs related welding works are received from subcontractors with no mistakes, then send it to third party/client in time.
2) Review welder qualification certificates submitted by subcontractors.
3) Review/sign-off inspection and test reports, ensure subcontractors to maintain inspection and test reports safely and carefully.
4) Issue site observations records, issue punch lists to subcontractors.
5) Report non-conformance findings related to welding quality to project quality engineer (QE) and QAQC Manager. Drafting NCR for QE and QAQC Manager for review and approval.
6) Review material traceability, welding traceability, NDT, PWHT related completion documents.
4. Training and Coordination:
1) Provide guidance and training to welders on WPSs, welding code/standards, acceptance criteria, and best welding practices.
2) Coordinate with project welding engineers, subcontractors’ supervisors, subcontractors’ QC inspectors to close SORs, punches, resolve non-conformance issues, improve their welding quality, ensure project welding quality standards are met.
3) Coordinate with third party inspectors and client inspectors for inspections and quality issues related to welding.
