"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. -Arthur C. Clarke"
At Genetic Design and Manufacturing Corporation (GDMC), we aim to bring transformative medicines to patients faster, improving their quality of life. To achieve this, we establish partnerships to co-develop and manufacture early-stage gene therapy assets to meet international regulatory standards. Our deep expertise in process development and manufacturing enables our partners to rapidly bring their creations to market and to navigate the uncertainties of clinical trials with confidence.
As a rapidly growing company, GDMC is expanding its Microbiology and Fermentation team. Our ideal candidate is an experienced scientist with knowledge of bioprocess optimization and scale-up. The candidate should have experience in molecular biology techniques and operating microbial fermenters of at least 2L scale.
GDMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind. We are committed to achieving a diverse workforce through application of equal opportunity and non-discrimination policy in all aspects of employment including recruitment, hiring, promotions, terminations, salary administration, benefits.

· Independently operate and troubleshoot fermentation and other upstream process equipment.
· Assess plasmid quality using standard (e.g. restriction digestion, electrophoresis) and emerging (e.g. Nanopore sequencing) techniques.
· Lead the scale-up of processes from shake flasks to bioreactors.
· Apply Design of Experiments methodology to the screening of upstream process conditions to improve process yield and plasmid quality.
· Author working protocols and standard operating procedures relevant to upstream processing.
· Participate in technology transfer activities to enable successful process implementation in manufacturing.
Requirements
· Bachelors in the life sciences, preferably biotechnology, molecular biology, or synthetic biology.
· 1-3 years of work experience in a bioprocessing, academic or commercial process development setting.
· Knowledge of fermentation automation and process control software systems (SCADA).
· Experience in molecular biology techniques such as plasmid extraction, PCR, cloning, electrophoresis, and transformation.

· Experience in cloning techniques e.g. Gibson or Golden Gate assembly is desirable.
· Experience in cell line development is desirable.
· Experience in cGMP environment is desirable.
· Ability to multitask, work independently and team player. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
