A Commis Cook is an entry-level position in the kitchen, responsible for preparing ingredients, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting senior chefs in food preparation and cooking. The role is an excellent starting point for individuals passionate about pursuing a culinary career.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Food Preparation:
• Assist in preparing ingredients (e.g., chopping vegetables, measuring portions, marinating, etc.) for menu items.
• Follow recipes and instructions provided by senior chefs.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of ingredients to maintain freshness and safety.
2. Cooking Assistance:
• Support senior chefs during service by preparing and plating dishes as instructed.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, grills, and mixers.
• Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure dishes meet quality standards.
3. Kitchen Maintenance:
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, including workstations and storage areas.
• Wash, clean, and sanitize utensils, equipment, and surfaces regularly.
• Dispose of waste appropriately and assist in stock rotation.
4. Learning and Development:
• Observe and learn from senior chefs to develop culinary skills.
• Stay updated on food trends and techniques to enhance knowledge and performance.
• Participate in training sessions and workshops as required.
5. Compliance and Safety:
• Follow health and safety regulations in all kitchen activities.
• Adhere to food hygiene standards and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors immediately.
