Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of a School Counsellor are as follow, but not limited to:
Pastoral Care
· Be the designated Person for Safeguarding and part of the Safeguarding Team:
- Lead on all aspects of safeguarding and child protection
- To ensure procedure and practice reflect the School’s ethos and in addition but not limited to Singapore’s legislations and statutory requirements
- To ensure all policies and procedures are written, reviewed, monitored, and actioned,
- To ensure all training, both statutory and other is completed in a timely manner by all necessary staff and records are kept up to date accordingly.
· Provide support and remain accessible to all staff, promoting staff well-being in the Pastoral Care department.
· Advise and support staff, management and other stakeholders in all matters related to child protection.
· Maintain strict confidentiality in all areas of safeguarding; and, understand that there are certain scenarios in which confidentiality may need to be breached as laid out in the Pastoral Care Policy/Manual. However, the duty of confidentiality may be negotiable in that it requires the confidant not to disclose information unless authorised to do so and only in ways agreed. Authorisation is based upon an undertaking or understanding about the ways in which the information will be used, for what purposes, and to whom it will be disclosed. A breach of confidentiality may occur if the information is used in any other way; and,
· Work alongside an interdisciplinary team.
Counselling
· Providing counselling support and programs for school students including, but not limited to: education on understanding self and others, peer relationships, coping strategies, effective social skills, communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and multicultural/diversity awareness.
· Assisting classroom teachers with individual students in the areas of goal setting, decision-making, transition plans, classroom behaviour, and conflict resolution.
· Working in conjunction with classroom teacher, parents, and therapists to determine goals and programs for students.
· Providing the following responsive services as required: individual and small-group counselling, individual/family/school crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.
· Developing and delivering a plan of Professional Development short courses for staff and the parent community.
· Working in conjunction with the Admissions team including conducting the initial parent and prospective student meeting in order to effectively evaluate the student’s needs and determine potential placement in the school.
· Scheduling, overseeing, and conducting assessments and testing as required to determine eligibility for student’s placement in school.
Other Duties will also include:
· Attending all staff meetings as required.
· Planning and conducting focus groups during summer breaks as required.
· Maintaining student confidentiality.
· Ensuring conduct is professional and ethical.
· Adhering to The Winstedt School’s policies and procedures.
· Developing knowledge and expertise by engaging in professional development activities.
· Working cooperatively and effectively within the team and with children, senior teachers, co-teachers, and other stakeholders.
· Participating in service development and improvement activities within the team.
Requirements:
· Minimum 3 years of working experience in an International School or Clinical setting, and hold at least a Master's Degree in Counselling/Psychology
· Candidate must also hold a professional license in Counselling and Psychology.
· Qualified/registered member/or eligible for registration with Singapore Association of Counselling or Singapore Psychological Society.
· Committed and passionate in inclusive education and moulding the next generation.
· Enjoy working with diverse learners and motivated to help them succeed.
· General knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and 21st Century Classroom Technologies are required.
