We are looking for a motivated bioinformatics specialist who is keen on studying how microbes contribute to common skin diseases such as eczema and acne. Our lab is focused on leveraging new technologies to better study microbial populations and their impact on human health. We have extensive experience in metagenomic analysis in clinically or commercially important contexts such as uncovering distinct microbial communities in households affected by paediatric eczema (PMID: 35318044) and revealing the microbial basis of body odour in teenagers (PMID: 30497517). We are now focusing on applying various -omics capabilities to larger sized disease cohorts to understand how microbial pathways and biomarkers change with disease progression and treatment. Job Description

The Fellowship role will manage projects and provide expertise on Health Equity, access to care, and social determinants of health. The Fellow will support the Forum’s work in developing Singapore as a Country Lighthouse, conduct research on its health system transformation, and share insights on health equity. He/She will also coordinate with regional working groups and engage with local and global partners, including the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Network and the Accelerators Network, and contribute to the Forum's Health Equity strategy and broader global efforts.

The Health Equity effort in Singapore as well as the proposed pilot place-based change programme(s) will link to a broader global Global Health Equity strategy and pre-existing place-based change work (launching by the GHEN in 2024). This role is based in Singapore and hosted within the NUS Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance (CRiHSP). • Research and draft a White Paper on Singapore’s health system transformation journey, including leading interviews with key Health Equity stakeholders and identifying future opportunities for collaboration.

How you will do it:

Technical Skills:

What we look for:

UWCSEA East Campus is seeking a Teacher of High School English for a maternity cover position. This role will commence in mid-January 2025 to the end of May 2025.

Metabolic regulation of immune dysfunction during the progression of NASH to NASH-HCC

Description:

The lack of effective treatments for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and NASH-associated hepatocellular carcinoma (NASH-HCC) underscores the need to understand the transition from NASH to NASH-HCC. Identifying why some NASH patients develop HCC while others do not is a significant challenge, with growing evidence indicating that immune dysregulation plays a crucial role in this progression. The interstitial space, where cells receive nutrients and signals, significantly impacts immune function, suggesting that understanding the liver"s metabolic environment could reveal how immune cells behave during NASH progression to HCC. By profiling interstitial fluid metabolism and single-cell transcriptomics, the team aims to understand the metabolic regulation of the immune landscape in NASH to NASH-HCC progression. Using a high-fat, high-fructose, and high-cholesterol dietary mouse model that mirrors human progression, the team will study the metabolic and immune changes leading to NASH-HCC. In addition, the team’s preliminary findings show immune alterations and reduced levels of the bile acid hyodeoxycholic acid (HDCA) during NASH-HCC transition. The identified candidate will also test the potential of HDCA in preventing NASH to HCC transition, and further explore HDCA"s effects on immune cells.

Dedicated to exploring new frontiers, the NeuroPhenomics Lab integrates advanced techniques in genetics, epigenetics, and metabolomics at both single-cell and spatial levels. The lab also investigates neurometabolism, emphasizing the TCA cycle and IDH enzymes, and studies how metabolites affect the brain and tumor progression.

Aiming to bridge research and clinical application, the lab"s multi-dimensional strategy includes iPSCs, patient-derived organoids, transgenic models, and advanced imaging technologies. This positions the NeuroPhenomics Lab at the forefront of developing transformative therapies in neurooncology and neurometabolism.
