Our esteemed client, a leading global law firm, is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Commercial Finance Manager to collaborate closely with Partners and Lawyers. This pivotal role focuses on supporting practice groups by delivering accurate and timely management information, actively managing significant matters through budgeting and tracking, and driving the collection of outstanding bills to optimize financial performance.
The Role
The role involves providing and analyzing accurate, timely management information to support practice groups while actively managing significant matters, including budgeting, tracking, and optimizing bill collection to enhance firm profitability. Acting as a key interface between back-office accounting and fee-earning departments across Asia, the position requires close collaboration with firm members, senior partners, and practice group leaders. Key responsibilities include liaising with partners and billing associates to create detailed mandate-level budgets for larger matters, managing budgets by allocating fee-earner resources, defining work phases, and preparing reports for the Pricing Committee. The role also entails setting up and monitoring budgets in the firm’s financial systems, overseeing working capital components, and developing robust revenue support and credit control policies and procedures.
Your Profile
The ideal candidate should possess a tertiary education with strong proficiency in Excel (including modeling at an intermediate to advanced level) and MS Word, alongside excellent data analysis and interpretation skills. Experience in a legal practice supporting partners and senior staff is essential, with familiarity in Power BI, Excel XLCube, and 3e considered an advantage. A solid commercial understanding of the drivers within a legal practice, persuasive and influencing abilities, and report-writing experience are highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate a good analytical mind, a positive work attitude, and a strong sense of responsibility and ethics. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, organizational and time management abilities, and the capacity to handle multiple priorities are critical. Quick adaptability to new processes and systems, along with knowledge of Asia indirect tax, would be advantageous. Additionally, a pro-active and positive team-oriented approach, strong communication skills with international teams, confidence in dealing with partners and senior staff, and the ability to build trusted relationships with key stakeholders are highly desirable attributes.
