The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, fabrication and testing of thin film devices such as thin film transistors
• Setting up and optimisation of thin film printing systems
• Testing of new semiconducting material compositions
• Conceptualize and realize materials compositions for stability and high performance.
• Characterize the materials and devices via physical characterisation techniques.
• Curating and managing experimental data, and assist in preparation of reports, presentations, technological disclosures and manuscripts
• Be in charge of relevant laboratory equipment and maintenance
• Conduct trainings and mentoring of staff, interns and students when required

Job Requirements:

The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by National Research Foundation, Ministry of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, SCELSE is linking new insights from the life sciences with expertise from emerging technologies in engineering and natural sciences to understand, harness and control microbial biofilm communities.

We are looking for a Research Fellow who will be responsible for performing laboratory research to explore various aspects of biofilm development and host-microbe interactions. The selected candidate will work independently or in a small team to plan and perform experiments to address specific scientific questions related to biofilm development and colonisation of host tissues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with general laboratory management tasks to support the research group
• Assist with planning, performing and documenting laboratory experiments to study biofilm development and host- microbe interactions using methods such as in vitro biofilm models, tissue culture, organoid culture, advanced microscopy, genomics and molecular microbiology.
• Work closely with the Principal Investigator to analyse and interpret data, as well as troubleshoot experiments
• Assist with supervision of staff and students
• Participate in group meetings and prepare project updates.

Responsibilities:

• Perform laboratory testing in clinical chemistry and immunoassays.
• Determine the acceptability of samples with guidelines and prepare specimens for analysis.
• Validate the accuracy of laboratory data.
• Evaluate the test results accurately in accordance with procedures.
• Operate instruments to perform testing in accordance with established written procedures.
• Perform experiments, as scheduled, for evaluation of new reagents. Maintain quality control of laboratory testing to ensure accurate and timely lab reporting. Document corrective and preventative actions with good documentation practices.
• Assist in the servicing and maintenance of laboratory equipment according to manufacturer and SOP requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical or biological science from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum 2 years of working experience in a clinical laboratory will be preferred.
