HYCOMBS PROJECT

HYCOMBS: Hydrogen and Ammonia Combustion in Singapore

In the future, Singapore may be importing renewable energy in the form of hydrogen (H2) or ammonia (NH3). These zero-carbon fuels will require the development of new gas turbines (GTs) and internal combustion engines (ICE) used in power generation, aviation, and maritime propulsion.

This project focuses on the combustion fundamentals of hydrogen, ammonia, their blends, and their blends with hydrocarbon fuels. The knowledge acquired in HYCOMBS will enable the penetration of zero-carbon fuels in the Singapore energy system and this will benefit Singaporean industries and residents.

DESCRIPTION

The HYCOMB project aims to develop a deeper understanding of hydrogen/ammonia combustion phenomena and improve the efficiency, stability, and environmental sustainability of gas turbines and internal combustion engines. As a Postdoctoral Researcher in WP2.1, you will play a key role in deploying advanced diagnostics to study laminar H2/NH3 flames, a crucial step towards understanding combustion instability and pollutant formation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate a burner for laminar flame experiments, compatible with high-frequency diagnostics
• Conduct experiments on steady and pulsated laminar H2/NH3 flames using spontaneous emission of radicals (OH*, NH*) and laser absorption spectroscopy of stable species (NH3, H2O, N2O)
• Modulate injection conditions to induce controlled fluctuations of velocity, which will drive the oscillation of heat release, pollutant formation, and other quantities of interest
• Measure local flow conditions using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to correlate flame behavior with flow strain
• Collaborate with other partners to implement laser absorption spectroscopy in other rigs and validate kinetic schemes and simulations (WP1)

Investment Analyst/Associate in Capital Markets (CM) Department

General description: The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day tasks, including conducting investors research, preparing financial information and models, preparing marketing materials, and executing transactions. They will work closely with other team members in Singapore and across the globe on data and financial analyses, due diligence activities, and the creation of transaction materials. Being exposed to every aspect of a deal/transaction cycle, the candidate will be involved in the investor sourcing process, evaluation of such financing opportunities, arranging and structuring of such transactions, and see to the completion and documentation. The role needs a go-getter who wants to gain investment banking skills to eventually become a deal maker.

Detailed description:

- Assist the CM Director to source for credible strategic and sovereign wealth fund investors

- Assist the CM Director to manage investment bankers and financing proposal

- Assist the CM Director to answer questions from investors

- Assist the CM Director to prepare documents for investors Due Diligence

- Deep understanding of financial models

- Assist the CM Director in other matters like marketing, R&D joint labs, sourcing and incubation of early-stage startups, formation of incubation investment funds

- Strong in risk management, IPO regulations and review of legal documents
