Position Description
The Coal Trading Analyst will join the Coal Trading team within JERAGM in Singapore. The candidate will play a key part of providing trade analysis and commercial, logistical and administrative support required to assist the Coal Trading team and on a day-to-day basis will focus on JERAGM’s Japan business (both JERA and 3rd parties in Japan).
The candidate will coordinate closely with other members of the Coal Trading team and JERAGM’s middle and back-office functions, in a collaborative and open manner.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Assist with daily trade for our Japan business to prepare documentation and data and communication with JERA and external counterparties in Japan
- Assist with daily trade amendments to ensure trade capture and P&L is accurate
- Preparing weekly market update presentations for the Coal Trading team
- Conducting market research for growth areas and new counterparties in Japan
- Analysing trade data for our Japan business to provide unique insights to the traders to support better decision making
- Ad-hoc analysis for our Japan business as required by manager / executives / wider business
Qualifications
Key Qualifications and Experience
- At least 8 to 12 years’ experience working in a commodity trading environment or other related commercial industries
- At least 1 to 2 years’ experience within a Power Utility environment (especially coal) is required
- Must have a broad knowledge of the Japan power industry especially JERA with an understanding of coal end users in Japan (both utilities and industrial) and their coal sourcing requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
- Possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- Written and verbal fluency in Japanese (JLPT N1) or similar, is a must as the candidate has to manage Japanese speaking stakeholders both at working and management levels

- Confident personality with the ability to communicate effectively as well as interact with a variety of JERAGM functions and external counterparties.
