The Opportunity
The Data Scientist/Quantitative Research position is a part of the Global IT Department, which is directly overseen by the Group’s CIO. Our team currently comprises of over 40 IT, software, and data professionals primarily based in Shanghai, Singapore, and Moerdijk (the Netherlands). With our IT presence in Singapore rapidly expanding, we are excited to invite you to join our team!
Job Responsibilities:
· Conduct rigorous, open-ended research to address complex business questions using diverse datasets, deriving actionable insights that provide a competitive edge for the company
· Develop and maintain high-quality datasets, integrating internal and external data sources to support advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives.
· Build and deploy AI/ML models to address a range of business needs, from operational automation to strategic decision-making, ensuring models are impactful and aligned with organizational goals.
· Analyze and prioritize the company's key challenges, applying the 80/20 principle to focus efforts on high-impact problems.
· Foster a culture of learning and innovation by documenting processes, results, and data products to ensure transparency, reusability, and organizational knowledge sharing.
Requirements:
· Strong analytical mindset with a proven ability to extract deep, non-obvious insights through persistent inquiry and statistically rigorous methods.
· Resourceful problem-solving skills with the ability to source and integrate diverse data types, even when datasets are incomplete or unavailable.
· Interest or experience in maritime logistics, demand planning, pricing strategies, or similar domains.
· A degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics or similar fields from a leading university
· Professional fluency in English or Mandarin to facilitate effective communication across diverse teams.
Desirable Qualities:
· Academic research experience, particularly in areas relevant to logistics, operations research, or econometrics.
