The Role

Astor International School is recruiting for an early childhood/primary classroom teacher. The successful candidate will be an internationally qualified teacher, with international and enquiry based (IPC/IB) teacher experience.

The Context

Astor opened in August of 2019 to provide quality, affordable education to international students. Astor provides a focused and creative learning environment that specifically grows student understanding in Mathematics, Literacy, Humanities and Science whilst embracing art, music, dance and drama as an important tool in which to explore thinking and learning. Qualifications and Experience:

- Native English speaker.

- A minimum 4 year Bachelor in Education degree from an International university or recognised teaching qualification.

- Experience with a holistic approach to Education.

The Role

We are looking for a Geography teacher who has outstanding subject knowledge and broad experience of teaching ages 11-18, with the ability to enthuse and inspire students, maximising achievement and progress at all levels. In the Sixth Form, the school offers A Level Geography and IBDP Geography at both Higher and Standard Level. Experience of teaching A Level Physical Geography would be an advantage.

1. Learning & Teaching

• Collaborate with colleagues in the planning and delivery of schemes of work, including the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of the subject, and of different pupils.
• Assist HOF/AHOFs in adapting curriculum content and methods of teaching and examining as appropriate.

• Be supportive of and open to the frequent change that characterises a school such as Tanglin.

3. Management of Resources & the Teaching Environment

• Assist the AHOF in ensuring that departmental rooms present stimulating environments, which help to influence pupils’ attitudes positively towards Geography.

4. Assessment, Recording & Reporting

• Ensure students’ work is regularly assessed according to Humanities Faculty Teaching and Learning policy and that homework is in line with school policy.
• Report to parents in accordance with the school’s reporting policy as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
• To use information gained from assessment, recording and reporting procedures to generate further improvement in student achievement.
• Assist the AHOF in the setting and marking of internal school examinations and to supervise entries for external examinations.

5. Pastoral and Co-Curricular

• When required, take on a form tutor role in the Senior School and fulfil the responsibilities of that position.
• Follow the School’s policies and procedures with regard to discipline and behaviour, daily routines, duties, homework, leave of absence, and visits, as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
• Contribute to co-curricular activities that broaden pupils’ experiences and contribute to the general life of the school.
• Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

6. Communication and Liaison

• Help to establish a love of Geography and its relationship with the current world around the school through you’re a personal enthusiasm for the subject.
• Attend and contribute to meetings of a professional nature with HOF, HOY, SSLT and in other circumstances when requested.

• The candidate with in-depth knowledge and application of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and other teaching methods and the ability to adapt flexibly would be considered favourably.
